Post by Bormac »

Im after some assistance with finding some metric Kyosho type universal or CVD drive shafts.

Is there a database or a list here or elsewhere?

We already have a Universal Shaft Database.... it's called "The Complaints Department".

Here's a start; I researched this a bunch while I built my various Optima resto-mods, especially CYANide and Barney. Those cars have GPM alloy rear arms that are a bit longer than stock arms.

-62.5 mm bones/U-joints/CVDs: This is stock Optima/Ultima bone length, from crosspin-to-crosspin. U-joints and CVDs were available, but I believe all of them have taper-fit axles that needed the special hex hubs.

-65 mm CVDs: I believe this is one length option for the Lazer rear end; they're straight axles drilled with crosspin holes and require standard modern 12mm hexes and 2mm crosspins.

-68 mm CVDs: Also for the Lazer, otherwise exactly the same as the 65 mm units. I'm using these on the rears of all my modded Optimas as the rear alloy arms are 5mm longer than stock and these are a perfect fit.

-73 mm CVDs: I believe these are for the Lazer front end. Otherwise the same as the 65/68mm CVDs.

I think there are even longer CVDs out there but it's outside the scope of my needs & research. Hopefully someone else can add to the list.

EDIT: I should add that the axle ends of the 65/68/73mm Lazer CVDs came in at least 2 lengths, maybe three. The original Kyosho axles have 2 or 3 lines scribed in them to identify them. The 3-line axle was exactly 1mm longer than the 2-line axle, for example.
Completed projects: CYANide Onroad Optima | Zebra Gold Optima | Barney Optima | OptiMutt RWD Mid
Gallery - Coel's Stalls: Marui Galaxy & Shogun Resto-Mods | FrankenBuff AYK Buffalo | 1987 Buick GNX RC12L3
