6355 Rear arms ( later design in white )

Post by MarkyDents »

I purchased these rear arms to install on my black tub Team car, I knew I needed the shorter inner hinge pins already (still need to get them) but I did not know they were made up of a different material then the original design arms. I did open them to see what the lil instructions said.

And for reference, a nice set of original design rear arms that were dyed black. With the later design sitting on top of the original you can easily see the size difference of the front side mount.

I always recognize these arms by the raised inner webbing. The standard arms are completely flat below the dog bone
All together, they are meant to be stiffer and less prone to twisting between the hub carrier and the shock mounting locations.

Those are re-re arms, which are essentially white Worlds arms.

The material has the same texture as the newer, graphite impregnated parts.

You are correct in that they are the same design arm that was produced for the “Classic” re-re, but these are original arms.
A quick way to tell the difference is the originals have ejector pin marks at the ends of the upper X shaped area of webbing that’s not present on the re-re arms. I myself don’t have any re-re parts to photograph so I pulled a pic of a re-re rear arm from one of Scr8p’s threads. Hope he doesn’t mind 8)

Also some images I found online, the mold gating is definitely different as well because the arms are connected with a single tube with the re-re ones. There’s also an L and an R on the bottom side of the arms.

The ejector pin marks alone make them vintage but I don't believe I've never seen a vintage short pin arm in white - only in black.
Just had a quick look at the 25 years thread and unless I've missed something, vintage short pin arms are always black there as well. Interesting!

I have a set of these arms, as well as re-re Worlds arms. Other than color, I don't see any other differences.

I checked five different manuals, vintage and re-re. The 6355 part number is used for all of them. The only variation I found was the re-re Worlds, which is 6355B.

They made the arms in white and they *were uncommon in the glass filled material during the production of the worlds car. They were on some CE cars.

Right running change with the part number.
These arms in white were around for just a quick blip in time before they were all made in black. All around the same time period of the original Worlds car. There’s a quick mention of them in the 25 years thread as well.

I went back and seen that.

It makes sense though. The set that I have are noticeably yellowed, moreso than I thought re-re parts should be.

Speaking of learning, today I learned of the L and R being on the bottom of the rere arms. Without having them myself I had no idea it would be that simple to distinguish them from the originals. I really do feel like I learn something new all the time. But then again that may be a direct reflection of how much I forget on a regular basis
