RC10 B3 x 2 - Factory Team & WOIN Runner

Post by Lavigna »

I figured I would combine this build thread for the two B3's I'm building. I've been on a big B3 kick lately. I have been hunting donor cars and parts for nearly a year.

FT - This is going to be a shelfer fitted with a lot of vintage upgrades and blue bits. It will be the match to my FT T3 that is nearly done. Eventually I would like to find the aluminum front bulkhead and brace, but those have become a bit rare.

WOIN - This one I'm really excited for. I'm going to build it up with modern electronics with a stealth look. No blue. It will use hex wheels, V2 shocks, modern slipper, and I am working on fitting a modern drive & hub setup.

FT - This one starts with a brand new Factory Team car built completely stock. I have disassembled most of it as I am making lots of small changes and upgrades.

The chassis happens to be the short version. All parts are the FT carbon.

I rebuilt the diff using these gorgeous aluminum outdrives. I rebuilt the shocks with these FT blue caps and black springs.

These are some of the upgrades that will go into it.

WOIN - This one starts as a new built Team car. I don't want any blue on this one. I have ordered a ton of parts for it, and I'm still waiting on some. It will be completely disassembled and rebuilt as a race car.

It came with some of the parts bags still sealed.

WOIN - Help please. I wanted to use these cool magnesium B6 slipper discs with the Avid B4 top shaft. However the discs are are too loose on the Avid shaft. I thought these would be compatible. Can anyone give me some help as to what I may be missing?

Yeah b6 is all metric. So it looks super similar but it's different.

Thanks. That makes sense. I have installed modern slippers on a couple of RC10T's before using a B4 shaft. I guess I must have used B4 slippers as well. I had completed forgotten they were different.

Back to the drawing board. Thanks!

I am so confused. How can these Avid Triad (I've used a version of this on a B4 top shaft in an RC10T before) fit both B4 and B6 if the top shaft is different?

Does it fit one direction for B4 size and another for B6 size?

Is the B6 and TLR 22 series the same size top shaft?

Thanks for any help!

B6.1 started with the metric top shaft. Your slipper hub is probably for those and newer.

Thanks. Would a slipper for a 22 series fit my B4 shaft?

Going by the above product overview I'd think it would. But I can't say for sure.

Thanks Scr8p!

Last question - Where are folks getting those milled aluminum spacers that go between the RC10B3 transmission and motor plate? Would anyone be interested in making some for me?

Thanks!

I realized that I have a TLR 22 5.0 buggy (duh!). I pulled off the slipler eliminator and tried it on the B4 shaft. It didn't fit. It was too big just like the Team Brood magnesium plates.

Therefore, I think the TLR 22 series and B5 and up series use the larger metric shafts. Hopefully this can help someone else down the road.

B5 is definitely a metric shaft, however, the slipper section still worked for a b4 slipper. I modified a b5 shaft to fit in an rc10 case and I turned the metric area down to the slipper diameter. So those still used the old imperial dimensions.

Also just checked the manuals. The top shaft completely changes after the rc10b6. The b6.x cars use a super long through bolt on the top shaft. B6 still uses V2 slipper
