GP3D 1989 Worlds Stealth Car Replica

Post by scr8p »

So, I've been gifted one these kits by a good dude for helping him out by storing stuff the last 6-7 months or so. I think it's way overpayment for my services, but he disagrees.

I knew it was only a matter of time before someone made this a reality, and Andrew at GP3D really did a nice job with it. I'm looking forward to the build, but I don't have a whole lot of parts in stock for it, and there are other things I'm trying to move forward on. So this will take take awhile to really get going, but I'll keep an eye out for things I need when I can.

So what parts do I have for this thing? AE parts, not much besides some wing tubes, steering bellcrank, and few hinge pins, bottom load shock bodies and caps. I do have a new, gold, OG motor guard.... and an OG gold motor plate..... but I'm not sure want to use them on this. GP3D offers them now, so I think I'll just use their stuff. I'm gonna have to get the turnbuckles from them too..... or whoever is making them. I think I have an RCPS Mirage SS repop body already too. Have to check that.

For wheels and tires I have a pair of JC Racing pink 2.2 Yoke wheels for the back, and I'll be putting white TQ wheels up front when some nice ones come along. I don't have my TR-31/ CRP 4223 tire combo anymore (knew I shouldn't have sold them), but I'll have plenty of time to try and locate some before I really need them. If I still don't have them when the time comes, I'll find something similar for the back, and I have a pair of CRP 4222 tires for the front. Similar pin to the correct 4223, but they're spread out a bit more and they have 2 grooves down the center.

On to electronics. Seems like most of the AE drivers were running a Novak T1..... which I'm not opposed to using. But, I already have the perfect Tekin Pro Tempfet (600) to use. Same one Jack Johnson had in his Losi. Just needs a rewire. For a servo I have a new Futaba s131s, but I think it may be a bit too old. Seems most guys moved on to the 131sh by then. I'm not building a replica, but I want it to be period correct. But if an SH doesn't show up by servo install time, it's getting the S. I'll have to figure out a receiver at some point, and a green label Reedy mod. I have some yellow sce stick packs I can break down and reassemble for it too.

i think that about covers it for now.

Congrats! Been eyeing that one myself. It appears to be a really nice kit - parts well made.

Really looking forward to seeing what you do with your copy. :D

I can't wait to see what you come up with Jason. :D
Really want to see if you can get the bottom load shocks and caps anodized nicely, If I recall in the past you nailed them on a cliff Lett replica!
A non Masami replica will certainly be different and way cool!

There's about a dozen guys in the world who would know this, with you being one of them. I suspect you will get away with using the S.

Looking forward t the build :D

The 131S was replaced by the 131SH in 1986 and was made obsolete in in 1987 with the release of the S148 which is a budget servo with very similar specs.
THE 131sh had a long life even being re-badged as the 9401.

The 131S and the 131SH are identical on the exterior, well except for the sticker.

That's actually older than I thought it would be. So it's definitely out then.

Something will come along, it always does. Just gotta be in the position to get it when it does.

I would have thought that most US drivers would have been running those super FAST Airtronics servos (94151 ,94737) shame that they are as rare as hens teeth.

I'm not hurting for 94737's. The one on the right needs a new harness though. Unfortunately, the cars they're going in really should have the 94151. But it is what it is.

Those are very nice servos super fast 0.12' 60deg ok not as fast as 94151 0.08' 60deg but faster than 131SH at 0.16' 60deg. :D

Please tell your buddy I would be happy to store some stuff for him if this is the type of payout

Can’t wait to see the build, I am about half way through mine but if you haven’t already been following Sandkil’s build on Instagram go take a look, thing of beauty!

P.s. Andrew @ GP3D is a legend, still can’t believe I have this car!
I come for the RC10's but stay for the Yokomo's :P

Both those servos were awesome in their day, especially the SH, I was a Futaba guy all the way back then 8)

Looking forward to the build Jason, Andrew and Bezerk did a fantastic job on the kit!
