Tamiya Blitzer Beetle - 2011 Reissue

This just showed up today from Japan, got another great deal. These seem to be drying up out there, kept seeing "Last One" on ebay, everywhere I looked, so I got one of these before I can't. Anything early air-cooled Volkswagen gets me every time.

One thing that I would definitely avoid is using the self tapping screws to attach the shocks to the towers. Drill through, tap to M3, and use longer machine screws. I run full length screws from the back of the towers and attach the shocks with threaded pivot balls.

What are your thoughts on the blue 14kg low profile servo? I was going to buy one or two for stadium truck use.

I'd also consider the Tamiya HD servo saver. The included one will get sloppy quickly.

I recommended the Tamiya model because it fits better than other types that I've tried.

What are your thoughts on the blue 14kg low profile servo? I was going to buy one or two for stadium truck use.

I would think they would work fine if you're just having fun and not competing, $16 with metal gears, and enough torque for 1/10 tires. Other's would know better than I would about all of this, but that would be my best guess. I also prefer to stick to 180 degree servos, I find my 270 degree servos have to be dialed down too far with the Tx, with the older RC10\Tamiya models.

Got the servo and Tamiya HD servo saver in.


The Tamiya HD servo saver sticks out a bit further than the stock servo horn.


Was hitting the front bulkhead with the HD servo saver, on the top left.


Trimmed the support on the top left.


Chassis completed except for shocks, and electronics.

That servo must have a lot of top offset.

I have five Blitzers with that servo saver and all of them cleared.

Got the servo mounts turned the right direction now, glad it didn't require a lot of disassembly.


Going to get the shocks ready and then decide on the M3 hardware.

I was going to check out the M3 screws for the shocks, and threaded balls, but this one will maybe see a trip around the backyard, and then go on the shelf.




Will get the electronics sorted, then the body which will take me a while.
