Help needed - RC10 Box Art Replica

Post by limestang »

Last year after living in the same home for 20 years, I was faced with needing a new job. A focused search finally led to a very similar position but in a different city. While thankful with finding something, the next 3 months were dedicated to packing, moving, selling and buying a home. Then the unpacking and struggling to find things (still working on this). Just when I thought things would settle down, the house had some unexpected issues needing immediate attention.

Well I finally have a little time to put towards hobbies. I decided to resume work on my RC10 Box Art project. I have been diligently studying prior work efforts and applying everything I can. I thought I would post my progress here. Member help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Mark

Hoping someone can recommend a solution. I dyed an original motor connector blue for my RC10 Box Art project. I wasn’t able to reuse the original connection pins and can’t find replacements. I tried tamiya mini plug pins and they are much smaller in diameter.

Below is the box photo showing the blue plug part no 3505.

Thanks Mark

Digikey sells em. They are Amps connectors

This is just the one housing, but it links you to the associated parts like the pins

Not to derail this thread, but...

I've seen this picture hundreds of times in the past 30+ years and just noticed for the first time that the motor guard doesn't have holes!!! Guess my attention to detail is questionable...

Has anyone figured out what is being used for a bushing on the upper Shock mounts? It’s not the normal whit plastic, it looks like steel.

Thanks Limestang

That makes sense. The photo resolution can fool my middle aged eyes. Thanks for solving another mystery :D

Does anyone know the brand servo arm? You can see it fairly well at this angle. Also including a photo from Ruffy’s replica. It’s wider than most of the factory airtronic arms I’ve seen.

I am not finding any in my box of used parts or the internet.

Thanks Mark

Taking Scr8ps advice, I discovered Airtronics provides a similar horn with some of their servos. It just needs to have one side trimmed off.

Here is the arm being trimmed. I thought about rounding, but leaving it flat for now. Top hole needed to be enlarged to accommodate linkage.
