Victor Engineering Charger Setup Question

Ok for all you other guys out there that love the smell of ozone and flux in the morning (tamiyadan im looking at you), I have a question about my Victor SuperIQ2 with the IQ3000 retrofit when it comes to setup. The nostalgia bug bit me and I dug this back out of my archives, gave it a good cleaning...

Re: 5 employees you meet at a Hobby Shop

Or a corvair radiator cap..........Seriously they have them listed in their catalogs, but the fun part is watching the little snot try to figure out where it goes.

Re: 5 employees you meet at a Hobby Shop

You forgot one that I have run into. #6 The snotty punk (all ages). Usually evolves from a #4 with a bad attitude. Doesnt realize the world existed before (insert year) and believes anything older than that must be a real pile of garbage. Knows very little but is very sure of themselves. Most Common...

Same motor that came in the rc10T bushing truck kits in the middle to late 1990s.

Re: Vintage Racing, what is original and OK upgrade?

Last I looked brushed motors were still being made, and the old SCR type Nicad cells are still in production and dirt cheap. One of my 10's is running a $10 new ebay motor and a pack of cells that performs like the old 1200 SCR's. Total cost of motor and building up the battery pack (including wire,...

Re: tools fer cheatin!

Oh yes I remember the speed control tweaking! Thats going back to the early 90's, which is when most of the motor tweaking came in too. I remember building a jig to sort armatures on by resistance and timing. Brushes were an art form as well, especially in the 4 cell on road classes. I remember that...

Re: tools fer cheatin!

Ok, I seriously did not intend this to be a sore subject for some, but rather a historical recording. The cat and mouse game between rule makers and a select breed of racers is a sport in its own right, and has been forever. Some guys prefer to make all the vehicles exactly the same, and for those r...

Re: tools fer cheatin!

Also have to remember that in some instances and racing clubs, pushing the gray zone was normal, and was in the spirit of the event. One of the groups I raced with it was expected, and part of the contest was seeing what you could sneak by with by interpretation of the rule book. At other events the...

Re: tools fer cheatin!

Ha I thought I was one of the only ones sneaking in a set of bearings that way! It got to the point I was using real bushings and turning them thin on the lathe because the tech guys were getting wise to the brass washer bit. I justified it by telling myself that I WAS using a bushing, but I just ad...

Re: tools fer cheatin!

Yeah I have to admit I never used less than 27 turns, but I would hand wind them. I never advanced the motors past legal either, just up to the edge. The tough part was getting the tabs bent out, and back again without marking them up. That was the real art.

tools fer cheatin!

Hey Guys, a discussion with a fellow "seasoned" racer brought up some good memories and a few laughs. We got on the subject of "inspecting" the internals of ROAR legal stock motors back in the days of crimped cans. This brought up a subject I though would be an interesting one. W...

Re: Vintage Racing, what is original and OK upgrade?

If you are going to run a vintage race.....it seems only fitting to run a loose dirt track. Otherwise honestly I don't see the point. The driving was different, because the track was different. Pushing a motor and battery to the brink was not as big a concern on those loose tracks, heck you could ba...

Re: Vintage Racing, what is original and OK upgrade?

Im sure this has been brought up, but has anyone considered a points system where the vintage of the electronics etc counts as much as the finishing position? Example a car that is completely 1995 or earlier vintage, every bit of electronics and all starts at 100 points. Dock 20 points for Lipo, 20 ...

Re: Vintage Racing, what is original and OK upgrade?

Hey Guys, I followed this over from the electronics board. I have to say when I heard about guys racing vintage 1/10 off road stuff, I ran to dust off my equipment. Then I saw it was a Lipo and Brushless tainted thing, and sadly put it all away. The motor building, tuning, and battery work is what w...
