Re: Allen B's hobby corner.

Team Magic G4+ limited edition update. Was bored over the weekend so I painted up an old 200mm lola VDS body from Blitz. I could have made it nicer but I was too lazy to break out the airbrush. Came out pretty cool though. Freehand drawing and masking. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2/AllenB5979...

Re: YR-4 custom buggy conversion

Thanks for the info guys and thank you Mr. Ed for the offer on the parts. I want to get the arms made first but I will likely take you up on that.

Re: YR-4 custom buggy conversion

Allen, just to be sure: you do know the wheels of the 91-92 yokomos are quite particular and need special mounting hubs right? I mean you won't be able to use the 12mm hex wheels wheels you have, not even if you have a fitting U-J or cvd. The offset on your wheels would put the wheels too far out st...

Re: YR-4 custom buggy conversion

It took me quite a bit more than 5 minutes to do this . But it went pretty smooth. I'm glad you like them. They are easy enough to modify, so maybe some day I'll make some slightly shorter ones to use with cvds and hex wheels with more neutral offset. You did a great job. In no way did I mean to do...

Re: YR-4 custom buggy conversion

Wow Mr. Ed! I am thoroughly impressed. I better get my act together and buy that mill! You exceeded anything I'm capable of in 5 minutes. Let me see if I can catch up.

Re: YR-4 custom buggy conversion

I took my laptop home and will try modeling up a set. Do you want something that could be machined easily, or more fancy: 3d printable only? That's a tough one. What manufacturing process do you think would cost more? I know a milled / machined piece would be a lot stronger. That's probably the way...

Re: YR-4 custom buggy conversion

pumpkinfish made these arms 3d printed to work with JC racing wheels, which I believe are based on 91/93 wheel offsets. https://www.shapeways.com/product/VWZHV2JS6/yokomo-yz10-870c-long-rear-arms?optionId=57783062 this might get you the width you need at a better price than original 91/93 arms. sup...

Re: YR-4 custom buggy conversion

Btw... Love your thumbnail! Have you got any little Lunch Boxes running around yet? The VLB's on this pic were mine and a buddies and one day as we were goofing around they got stuck like that, and that was a kodak moment  I sold mine, it was modded like hell with a third shock mod, ...

Re: Yr-4 / Yz10 slipper retrofit. Some help please?

The slipper clutch assembly for later yz10 will go right into the standard center motor mount bulk head. They are a bit hard to find, and lately, might as well be gold plated. Folks are getting top dollar for completed units. that being said, theres an mx4 slipper assembly on ebay for less $$, but ...

Re: YR-4 custom buggy conversion

Came out just perfect. Steering issues solved. Nice tough ball ends, great travel, nice and smooth... Couldn't ask for better. A bit different than the original plan but I'm very happy. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2/AllenB5979/Yr-4/20170125_215550_zpsokaeaovq.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/al...

Re: YR-4 custom buggy conversion

So... I said before I wasn't happy with the steering set up. The tiny ball cups are too flimsy, there's too much play in them and the travel is limited. I gave it some thought and this is what I came up with. Nothing fancy here. Just some calipers, a pencil, a straight edge and some paper. http://i3...

Re: YR-4 custom buggy conversion

I'm no expert on the subject but I think that it's the slipper of the works 91 and later. At least 2 of the second hand yr4's I bought in Japan had this type. The pulley is indeed part of the backplate. There are hardened optional ones but i think most were soft alu. You'd need an M2 version. The f...
