Wheels for Mid or Lazer

Will these wheels fit a Mid or an early Lazer? They are 12mm hex drive and back spacing is 27mm (1-1/16" as measured from base of hex socket to rim of wheel) and total width is 38.2mm (~1.5"). I think I received these by mistake; they arrived a big box of stuff that I ordered from someone ...

Re: The Official "What is it?" Thread

Holy smokes! That is one stunning RC and, from Alex's link, it appeared to arrive fully assembled. I reckon most hobby grade RC's of that era were offered as kits. Would that be the same Blue Bird that now markets servos? Perhaps there was a licensing agreement with Kyosho or was a blatant knock-off?

Re: Finally---I Score an Optima Mid

haha... Well, you're probably right. Based upon the directions in the manuals, the belt covers were so well servo-taped and their seams glue-sealed that they probably would break apart during a tear-down and often were not replaced. Or at least the thought of needing to buy new covers might discoura...

Re: Finally---I Score an Optima Mid

Hey, thanks GoMachV. I'm looking at the manuals on Kyosho website right now. I wasn't aware there were so many variants. It's a whole different world, isn't it. Those gears appear to be 32dp and they're pretty narrow and since they drive all four wheels, they're likely under a lot of stress. Anyway,...

Re: Finally---I Score an Optima Mid

Thanks Basher. I definitely need stop asking dumb questions and review the assembly manual - I thought they had bevel-gear diffs.

Re: Finally---I Score an Optima Mid

Thanks for the quick reply Coelancanth and Basher67. So, 50+ for rear diff and 25+ for front – when you can find them. Are these Kyosho parts or are they aftermarket (perhaps Robinson, Thorp, or?). Is it typically the plastic crown gear or the internal bevel gears that are trashed? The top input gea...

Re: Finally---I Score an Optima Mid

Not what I wanted to see in the tranny. :( Looks like new gears are in my future The Optima Mid is certainly on my bucket list of must-have cars as well. I've ways admired designs and graphics applied to 80's Kyosho cars - sorta reminds me of graphics seen on Yamaha sport bikes from the same era. A...

Re: Trannies on the corner...

I used the tape method on the Graphite and CE restoration projects lately in an attempt to maintain originality and yet not risk spoiling NIP parts. However, if your not going for originality then I could definitely see something made from... oh, I donno... titanium perhaps? :D

Re: Trannies on the corner...

IMHO If its going on the shelf, a small piece of tape applied to the outer ring surface will provide a friction fit and won't be visible when assembled. If it's a runner then CA is probably your best bet. Apply a tiny amount to the back face of the tab will hold it in place and will allow for easy r...

Re: Trannies on the corner...

Awesome! This one looks like a trailing arm car - very cool. When will we see the rest of the build?

Oh wow, that one is cool as well. So there's some possible outside influence but your new work was really inspired by your old work. Anyway, I really like how these vintage cars look out on the track. Takes me back to happier times.

I remember these from bitd - very cool. However, without a cover, I never understood how they kept dirt out of the pulleys.

Re: Anyone on here attending the Associated Warehouse sale?

I hesitate to ask (fearing the answer) but is AE liquidating? Do any of our members here work for AE? Does anyone have some insight regarding their stability?

Wow, a day early even. I mailed them Thursday from Alabama. Anyway, glad I could help.
