Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear

Also will not boil the parts, but simmer them, just before the boil and for less than 5 minutes to cure. I did the Rit Dymore project recently, near boil with thin parts at 15 minutes, there were 0 negative effects. The molding process to form these parts is well above boiling, so I'll be careful. ...

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear

Actually it is recommended you boil the parts after they completed a peroxide bath. With no support I have always done this before. My thoughts were that if the nylon is dehydrated it would absorb water/fluid. So I wanted to hydrate the nylon with plain water first so the peroxide would only be on ...

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear

I personally have not had a problem with using 3% peroxide, this regular stuff for cuts. I would leave it in a glass jar for a day or two in the sun. None of the parts got brittle or chalky, I do however fully soak the parts in water first so that if there is any material to wick into the nylon it ...

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear

Got the bearing kit, and was going to get started on the rebuild. Looking at the white plastics, I have yellowing in some places more than others. https://i.imgur.com/6jbQK0P.jpg I would like these to be shiny and fresh again. https://i.imgur.com/QjJnncq.jpg But I hear about the hydrogen peroxide p...

Re: Vintage Trinity Commutator Lathe (for stock motors)

Turns out there was a missing e-clip. I was able to snag one from the handle. I don’t have the pulley yet so I took a dead motor from my pile and made it a sacrifice. Since it didn’t run at all before not much is lost IMG_4287.jpeg Obviously not awesome, but if it runs at all that would be great. I ...

Thanks for the tip. Looks like that wasn't it.
I just noted that the high current draw doesn't happen until the blue motor lead is connected to the motor.

Re: Notes on Anodizing

You caught my attention. Can you tell me any more? I don't know of Dave Geitner , has he used and compared anodized samples? I've ordered a couple of Caswell's dyes and so far haven't had any headway. Almost tried gold n. I did look at there example of gold s, it appeared too bright and too yellow....

Re: Vintage Trinity Commutator Lathe (for stock motors)

This will take a bit of work to get going the lathe works well in the axis along the motor. However the mechanism that is supposed to hold the cutter against the com does not seem to hold it's position properly .

Re: Repairing Novak 4 esc _ what tools and what parts?

That didn’t work. There is a short… somewhere. The bec is working and powering a receiver. But my power supply is pulling 3 amps. The motor is getting 0 amps or voltage. I think I am going to pull all the parts off and try again. If I am thinking about this correctly. I can pull all of the fets off ...

Re: Repairing Novak 4 esc _ what tools and what parts?

Usually a diode tester will be low enough voltage not to damage FET's. The tube they shipped in is esd proof, there might be a little lightning bolt symbol on it if you look carefully. Silver solder will probably work fine if it looks like regular solder it's probably very low percentage. High perc...

Vintage Trinity Commutator Lathe (for stock motors)

I bought this comm lathe off ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/285846016683 Screenshot 2024-05-16 at 11.21.57 AM.png I don't know much about it but it looks like a stock motor lathe. Does anyone know the model, or have a link to instructions on this lathe or type of lathe? Is there a piece missing that ...

Re: Repairing Novak 4 esc _ what tools and what parts?

I haven't popped into this thread for quite a while. Sounds like you're handling things just fine. In general, devices in that package don't sit flush to the PCB, that is a unique construction for our hobby to make the footprint small and help ruggedize the assembly. So that wider lead makes sense,...

Re: Restoring faded color to anodized aluminum

It looks like Caswell may have a kit that would help.

https://caswellplating.com/anodize-touch-up-kit.html

I am not sure if this is just a degreaser, aluminum black and, a sealer.
