Re: Battery Straps

Yes, thick rubber bands are what I'm using now, but I wanted something more glamorous :D.

Battery Straps

Any good ideas for battery straps for an Ultima? What do you use?

Thanks!

Re: Ultima steering

Great suggestions, thanks. RichieRich - I just saw a picture in the magazine of the A+L steering system (it's bright yellow, right). Wow - I never knew that existed. I'm sure it was rare then - good luck finding one now, but I'll be on the lookout. I'll look into the other ideas - always good replie...

Ultima steering

I was reading a review of the Ultima Pro in the 1989 RC Car Action. The car got a good write-up, but it mentioned that the steering should have been something better than bent wire to reduce slop. Another review of the Ultima in an earlier issue also mentioned the steering as a weakness. I have noti...

Re: Ultima runner

Thanks, I'll get some more pics. I have restored a Turbo Scorpion and a belt-drive standard Optima, but I tend to sell them once I finish them. I guess I like the restoration more than the running :-). However, I had a Turbo Ultima as a teen, so this one I'm keeping. I want to someday restore an Opt...

Ultima runner

Just finished my Ultima runner. It's a Turbo Ultima with a few Option House extras (for example ball diffs) so I called it Ultima 1989. It was fun to restore and I used this website and Tamiyaclub for help, thanks.
See pics below.

Take care.

Re: My New Projekt "Javelin"

Love the Javelin - my favorite looking 4wd car. Those rollcages are so expensive. Even beat up one go for over $100 on Ebay. A Javelin these days almost needs to be a shelf-queen with the cost of the body repairs.

Re: Turbo Optima Versus Super Shot????

I think it depends at what level racing you are talking about and how a big an issue maintenance is for you. In the mid-80s my friend had a Tamiya Fox and I had an Optima. The Optima was faster, but it required much more maintenance (and adjusting the chain was a real pain).

Re: Flea Market Rc's

Wow - that rollcage alone is probably worth $100. Nice find - I never find vintage rc stuff at flea markets (except a Turbo Hopper now and then ;-).

Re: RC-10 and Maintenance

Thanks for the great comments/help. I agree that the Optima is "fussy." Don't get me wrong, it is reliable, but it takes a lot of adjusting. I remember when my friend had his Tamiya Fox and I had my Optima. I could almost always beat him running-bashing around, but I was also usually fixin...

RC-10 and Maintenance

I have a Kyosho Optima runner, which I enjoy as it was the car I had as a teen. However, like then - I am constantly maintaining it. The chain gets loose, dogbone pops, etc. I suspect maintenance is needed more with 4wds (at least that is what I have always heard) - but is this true??Specifically, w...
