Re: The Official "What is it?" Thread

Will do, thanks. I see the varied arms (after checking pics online).

Re: The Official "What is it?" Thread

Thanks Mr. Ed. There were arms that worked with the trailing arm option, right? Any idea of the other piece, I'm stumped?

I looked through at all the common possibilities (Optima, Ultima, Frog, Hot Spot) and I don't see these?

Edit: I figured out the arm, it's a back for the Red Ultima.

Re: Third Party Optima Belt Drive Conversion?

I agree that it is fun to see how different companies approached the issue. Kyosho may have over-engineered it. I suspect that the after-market kits may rub, but the belts are thicker than the ones in the Kyosho kits, so they may hold up to any rubbing better.

Great pic Terry!

Re: Third Party Optima Belt Drive Conversion?

That makes sense Terry, I remember you saying that awhile back in a post or pm about the belt conversion, that the Optima would run fine with just a belt on the diffs. The 18 one is almost the identical size to the stock one, while the 17s are smaller. So, I guess you could even mix and match llike ...

Re: Third Party Optima Belt Drive Conversion?

Mr. Ed, I didn't know the chain drive had different toothcounts available. Then, these may both be for the Optima, which would make sense for a small company to market to such a popular car.

Re: Third Party Optima Belt Drive Conversion?

RichieRich, those are definitely the same. Yours are the 18 ones, which consensus is leaning toward being for the Stiinger. The 17 ones are identical but smaller by one tooth, and they fit perfectly on the Optima stock diff and into the stock gearbox. I like the Tamiyaclub thread, I'm sure I have re...

Re: Third Party Optima Belt Drive Conversion?

It's the same length as the original belts that I have. I don't have a Mid belt for comparison.

Re: Third Party Optima Belt Drive Conversion?

Coelacanth, I know, I love the Kyosho belt drive kit. I have a full one. I see your point that this could be an upgrade to the Mid, but why like you say? It doesn't swap onto the Kyosho belt drive kit, I tried that just to see. I think this was a cheaper alternative to the Kyosho kit or maybe it cam...

Re: Third Party Optima Belt Drive Conversion?

RichieRich, That's great, try them with a stock Optima diff and the belt for the conversion kit (the 240xl). I want to see what you think. I opened the 18 one. The 18 one has a belt the same size, but a larger gear. It fits on the stock diff just like the other one. The 17.7 ones have 17 teeth and t...

Re: Third Party Optima Belt Drive Conversion?

Coelacanth, I don't know, but would they sell a part where you have to buy another idler gear and cut up the gearbox? Do you think it is just part of a kit? You don't have to cut the gearbox in that it is the stock diff and some people have run the belt without the idler (I remember this from anothe...

Re: Third Party Optima Belt Drive Conversion?

Dennis, You're right, it assume it should also fit the Optima Mid and it would be an upgrade/option for a Mid. I don't have Mid diffs to check it out on though. It fits the stock Optima and it doesn't fit on the Kyosho belt drive conversion. If it is for the Optima, I want to know if it works well. ...

Re: Mystery Competition Model Works Parts? (Optima)

I restarted a thread here:

http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=30608

They seem to be belt conversions for the Kyosho Optima.
