Can you guess which is the paint, and which is the pen - both are 40th knockoffs. https://i.imgur.com/HHCzOae.jpg That's Rustoleum Chrome, excellent coverage and texture. The Liquid Chrome pens on the right, are shinier, more like chrome, but the texture is so bad, gets little bubbles in it that har...

Got the front shock pins. Put (2) sets of Bolink front tires on the chassis, for matching OD. TDP front wheels will be 0.75" wide, the Bolink wheels are 1.15" wide, but it's similar enough to get started. https://i.imgur.com/9hBtddw.jpg https://i.imgur.com/EkD79mV.jpg https://i.imgur.com/m...

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear
Buds was still buds at least well into 1991, I think your going to struggle to find a very early pinned ring vs simply notching it out more with a Dremel and calling it a day. Will try the 4-40 bit and oil first, really want it to be a clean looking and functional install. Have the Dremel metal cut...

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear
Thanks for that! I'm already drilled and tapped for 4-40, and a new outer hub is at least $30. Going to get those rings to work by widening the notch for 4-40.RC10resto wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 1:56 pm Not sure if this will help you?

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear
Running change, it looks like they started with a setscrew size hole and moved to a 1/16 pin instead- likely due to it being harder to balance the heavy steel screw. Buds became BRP so you probably can't pin down that the buds package would be a setscrew, but it's more likely than the much later br...

Re: 1/10 Scale On-Road - Chassis Options in 2024
Got the MCI decal sheet yesterday. If this sheet was half the price, twice the delivery speed, and pre-cut, it would be more acceptable for me. Paid about $40 with the premium colors, to change the hood stinger to white. Honestly, you can see the ink jet pixelation dots in the chrome decals on the s...

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear
These are the directions that came with the BRP #2110 kit, it mentions a 1-16" drill bit. What's that in relation to a 4-40?? I'm a VW air-cooled metric guy, the SAE/imperial fractions do nothing for me. https://i.imgur.com/De0p1OS.jpg There is another BRP product with the number #2111, it is a...

Found a vintage NOS set of asc6192 knockoffs, not in chrome, but from the original smooth mold; $20 shipped was the right price for making the attempt to chrome them with pens or spray. Seller's pics - in the mail. https://i.imgur.com/4UAmooS.jpg Picked this brick up on ebay for $31, (14) cells of S...

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear
This may not be the answer but an answer. There are several tip types for set screws. McMaster-Carr shows one of a couple that could possibly work. The .075 being the tip diameter. Probably several other methods to solve the fitment issue. I can't remember if I ever ran across this years ago, not s...

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear
Got the idler pivot glued in place, this was spinning freely in there. When I glued it in, I had to refile the gear mesh in some spots, as the idlers are solid now, not like old wooden wagon wheels bouncing down a gravel road, like it was when when I got this. https://i.imgur.com/bDuf2V6.jpg Mark se...

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear
All of the steering parts are cracked in some place. One set is original, the other looks like an early repro, the texture is rough. I've always wondered if the non-threaded portion of the ball ends ( just under the hex ) tends to add additional stress to the holes that tend to crack. At least I do...

How did AE do their chrome? Vacuum metallization... the part is put in a vacuum chamber with an aluminum wire, drawn down, then current is applied across the wire which vaporizes the aluminum and the vacuum causes it to attach to the part. Over the last few years all the vacuum metallization places...
