Re: Pan car

Gearing with a 54 tooth spur gear and 13 tooth pinion gives you a gearcratio of 4.1:1. As a comparison, when I used brushed motors in 1/10th pan they were usually geared between 4.8 to 7:1 depending on the track, with normal size tyres. With those tyres it is way over geared, you need a much bigger ...

Re: RC 101: Wheel Offset

Your problem is assuming an industry standard definition from the full size world is the same as in the r/c world. In the r/c world the nearest you can get to an actual definition of zero offset is "whatever measurement Tamiya arbitrarily used when they made their first touring car back in 1991...

Re: CAT XLS - parts that wear out

Schumacher still make and sell parts for cars that are over 25 years old, as long as there is a demand and they can actually make the parts they will still keep making them. If their moulding machines are idle it is easy for them to pop in an old mould and make a few parts. They have stopped selling...

Re: Ultima Tires?

If you want wheels to fit 2.2" modern tyres, it's never been easier. Two simple solutions, first is Kyosho Turbo Scorpion wheels, bolt straight on and have the correct bearing size and offset. Second option, the pepperpot style wheels for the Ultima from JC Racing, available in a wide range of ...

Re: Hobbywing QuicRun 10.5 T Combo Really Slow - So Frustrated - Any Ideas?

Does the esc have timing function? Yes it does. By default it is set to 0. I have not tried to adjust the timing as I figured even at 0 it should be pretty darn quick. :? This will be your problem, there's a reason the ESC comes with the default timing set at 15 degrees. 0 degrees timing is only re...

Re: Optima re-re parts compatibility

Thinking about it again (it's just an exercise..), with the addition of OT221 the diff bodies get complete and I am pretty sure they would fit the original transmission housings. Only doubt left is about the internal parts of the diffs: direct swap or they don't fit the new diff bodies? Only way to...

Re: Solder station recommendations.

As we are on recommendations, while I have an Atten soldering station for most work, I'm now finding I'm only using it if what I'm working on is right next to it on the workbench. I used to have a gas soldering iron for at the track where there is no power, okay when new but never kept its heat and ...

Re: Will these still work with the right battery and controller?

Any 75mhz AM transmitter and matching crystals should work with those, but for reliability it's worth replacing the receiver with a modern 2.4Ghz radio. Minimises the chance of any radio interference and basic radios can be picked up very cheaply. The servo and ESC will work fine with modern receive...

Re: Confused By New RC12L Plastic Coloring

Thanks guys! That was what I was thinking, just weird to start dying parts before you even complete finishing it. Apart from the boiling nylon parts to stress relieve them, you dyed them when new because the parts were still clean. Any dirt or oil on the surface would prevent the dye from being abs...

Nick said he couldn't recall about the stickers as he hadn't seen them for a looooong time either, but he was willing to have a dig and get back to me if he finds one. A couple of us were trying to find them 5-6 years ago, contacted Nick who said he had some but never heard back so I guess he didn'...

Re: Does the Optima Mid box body exist?

No, that body shouldn't exist in the wild. The bubble in the side window is to clear the MSC fitted to the Mid. The only time you'll see a Kyosho body without the bubble is in preproduction images.

Still much a niche category, it still has a national championship here in the UK and there is an official world championships which runs each year. They used to be pretty big a few years ago, I even got involved with the design of this https://www.tamiyaclub.com/tcimages/297/img297_09092009220500_2....

Re: First one I ever had... 2019 Turbo Optima re-re build

Tamiyas Wild Willy was the first with the 12mm hex drive 2 years previously, but the wheel fits over both the hex drive and over the wheel bearing as well to locate it, the hex drive was just the inner part of the wheel mount. Tamiya also used a much smaller hex drive in some of their Racing Master ...

Re: Full Spike tyres for Nitro 10?

As you are talking about 15x20 tyres I assume you have the buggy version, with the buggy wheels. The 20x15, 3x20, 8x10 were the spike layout on the tyres, not the tyre size. Buggy tyres are standard sizes, either 2" diameter for really old tyres or 2.2" diameter for everything after the ea...
