Re: RC10T Cliff Lett Edition Kit
Keep telling people that and you won't be working at a hobby shop for much longer. :P  He has a point though. Why buy from a local hobby shop when you can get it quicker and often cheaper direct from Associated because Associated makes a lot more money selling at retail rather than trad...

Re: Ultima Pro Restoration
The body in the link you sent is for an Ultima II, not sure how different they are. The Ultima Pro has a mini wing underneath the big wing, that is the only real difference I see. It's the same body, the mini wing is moulded into the bottom of the rear panel of the body. The Ultima II just cuts the...

Re: Ultima Pro Restoration
Got to be the worst ever ball diff design, using hard steel plates rather than separate replaceable diff washers. You need part WBD-1 to repair it. Unfortunate that teh rerelease parts don't fit unless you replace the whole gearbox which isn't cheap. I didn't notice back then but the shock tower is ...

Re: Ultima Pro Restoration
The sway bar contacts the steering linkage. Dang it. I wanted to use that. The original A arms had an indent in them that allowed a proper fit. This Andy's A arm does not. It doesn't have a spot for the ball link either but I could have resolved that easily enough. I considered attaching it on the ...

Kyosho micron tape. This video shows you how to use it, 1mm wide tape is used n the video and it is too wide to look realistic. 0.4mm or 0.6mm tape looks much better.

Re: What is it now Team Associated?!
I'm not up on much with the on-road stuff. Is there a market for the original RC10L rerelease? I would say there's virtually none, especially as those of us who collect vintage on road usually don't have much of a problem building them up. Kyosho have released four of their old 1/12ths, although mo...

Re: Vintage Sanyo Batteries
Nicads are pretty resilient, I picked up a bunch of packs with some buggies I bought and they had been sitting in a loft for about 12 years. Ran a few charge and discharge cycles through them and they all woke up again. Of course the limited capacity compared to modern batteries means no one is real...

Re: Vintage motor questions/discussion
These diodes were never attached. Does anyone know if they are all essentially the same? I know the big round one is the capacitor, but the rest seemed to be used interchangeably. The picture shows various capacitors, the round can one at the top is an electrolytic while the others are ceramic. All...

Re: Ultima Pro Restoration
Most parts will clean up and should be usable. In theory you could look at re-release parts but a lot of them aren't compatible with the original cars. A repro body is available from Boki Racing https://www.bokiracing.com/product-page/boki-kyosho-ultima-body-wing and the stickers from MCI https://mc...

Re: Vintage motor questions/discussion
Yep, play in the mesh between the many gears, or the motor not stopping in exactly the right place, means the potentiometer sees the servo position is very slightly out and tries to correct it without giving enough power to the motor to actually move the gears in the servo.

Re: Vintage motor questions/discussion
I like this thread. I have a question. When I power up my tx and then the rx, things twitch to neutral as expected. If i let it sit for a bit I can here the a servo doing a small twitch occasionally. Not sure if its the steering or throttle servo. Will need to pull the body so see for sure. Ideas o...

Re: Vintage motor questions
What's the theory behind cut brushes? They were used for a variety of reasons, and any cut reduced the contact area on the comm which reduced friction to give you higher revs and more speed. The downside is it restricted current flow so you had less bottom end power. Because of this I usually used ...

Re: What is it now Team Associated?!
Apparently this is Masami's role at AE I am fascinated by the wishful thinking from some people. First of all it was that Associated taking on Masami for product development somehow meant they could now make Masami bodied rereleases, which Schumacher managed without having to give him a job. Now it...

Re: Time for another new RERE section- now MARDAVE!
A quick history lesson. Mardave was one of the first rc car manufacturers in the world, making 1/8 nitro cars in 1970 and electric cars in 1976. Schumacher started because a young Robin Schumacher and his friends raced Mardaves and his father thought a differential would help the handling. When the ...
