Cool.
The one I show in the other thread didn't require any other parts. It really fits like it is meant to be there (in the Ultima, at least). I recommend using that specific one if someone wants to try this.

Re: Crawltima?
Oh, I forgot to mention that I've installed a 10t pinion as well. It doesn't look like the motor can swing any further forwards, so 10t seems to be the lower tooth limit without breaking out the dremel.

Re: Crawltima?
As explained in this thread, I'm using a 19T 32p pinion gear for a 5mm shaft for the final pinion gear inside the gearbox: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=37626 This is the one I bought and it turned out to be perfect. From "Hot Racing:" http://www.mcdonaldindustries.com/j...

Re: Post your vintage PRINTS here in the vintage RC Photo Al
My 15 minutes. I remember being so fired up over the "racing trucks" vs. "monster trucks" thing that I flipped and felt I needed to throw in my $0.02. Here it is, APR '91 RCCA, Letters................ RCCA.jpg Yeah! Mark I subscribed to RCCA back then and I remember reading your...

Metal Final Pinion for Ultima, etc. - Another Option??
Rather than buying the hardened final pinion (OT76?) for $35-45, why can't I spend $7 on a regular 32p 19T pinion gear like this... http://www.mcdonaldindustries.com/james/$_57.JPG ...Then chuck it up in my lathe, and bore out the ID to the correct diameter? It looks like the set screw would end up ...

Re: Crawltima?
I don't intend for it to be a crawler, I just thought "Crawltima" had a nice ring.
Basically, I just think it looks cool with these wheels and tires, and I'd like to be able to drive in freshly-mowed grass.
I just ordered a 10t pinion, so we'll see how that works.

Re: Crawltima?
Looks sweet, kinda like a smaller version of the modern ultima db. Be wary of larger tires and torque. The Ultima center gear is not very strong and there is no slipper set up. Those gears arent cheap either. You just put a tire twice as tall as intended and with super grippy tires so if you put a ...

Re: Crawltima?
Hey thanks for helping me out with that. Looks like I need to order another pinion.
I'm still trying to decide on how this thing will be powered, but one thing I'd like to do, is to mount a shorty pack longitudinally so that the battery isn't sticking out the sides.

Re: Crawltima?
What size pinion do you guys think I should run with these tires? The tires are 108mm. I have a 12T pinion on order but I'm thinking it may not be small enough.
