Re: Crawltima?
Yeah, I didn't intend for this to actually be a crawler. I just liked the look. Part of my motivation was to have taller tires which would enable me to drive in grass more easily. Most of you have probably seen this, and maybe this guy is on the forum already, but here's where I learned how to conve...

Crawltima?
This is a work in progress. I had a silly idea to put crawler wheels and tires on my Ultima. I converted the front end to have hexes using Lazer and RB5 parts, and have installed GMade wheels and some 1.9 crawler tires off of Ebay ($12 shipped for the set, and I was suprised at the quality and soft ...

Lengthwise battery in original Ultima
Has anyone figured out a way to mount a battery lengthwise in the original Ultima? I'm not talking about using an aftermarket extended wheelbase carbon chassis or anything like that. I am asking about doing this with the original aluminum chassis. Are there shorter packs than standard out there? Or ...

Re: Kyosho now on the re-re bandwagon - Scorpion
I don't have much interest in the Scorpion because it was before my time, RC-wise. I am more of the original Optima and Ultima era. So the Scorpion only excites me due to the possibility that I may be able to buy a re-re rear engine Optima some day.

Re: kyosho slingshot build
Cool, I look forward to seeing it. I am surprised you can still get bodies which fit that car. I thought it was a lot larger, or at least wider, than modern touring cars and that there wouldn't be a reason for anyone to produce a body with those proportions anymore. I wanted to tell you I found the ...

Re: kyosho slingshot build
Cool to see one of these on the street, and not set up for an oval.
I am the guy who you recently bought another one from on Ebay, btw.

Re: Ultima pinion choice.
Yep, that is quite handy, thanks. Given that I was going to run a LeMans 240ST, and my larger tires, I'm thinking of trying a 13T.

Re: Ultima pinion choice.
Can you recommend another "dual purpose" type of tire but which has a "normal" side wall height?
Thanks
P.S. cool blog

Re: Ultima pinion choice.
Ed, thanks for the reply. I do understand the principle you are talking about. And I was aware that that was the goal back in the late 80s when the 2.2 wheels first came out. However I got it in my head that in the ensuing years between then and now, 1/10 buggy tires grew in diameter for some reason...

Re: Ultima pinion choice.
I know this thread is kinda old but I've been pondering this as well and thought it would be better to add to an existing thread rather than start a new one. Nobody asked the thread starter what tires he was using. If he happens to be using modern larger diameter tires then all suggestions need to b...

Re: Ultima II / hybrid rc
I can confirm that the rear shocks are kyosho. They also put those on a cheap version of the Slingshot I have that came with a Chevy Lumina body. Oddly enough, I think it was called "Chevy Lumina."

Have you guys seen these aluminum Optima wheels on Ebay?
This has probably been covered already, but I searched and couldn't find anything. What do you guys think about these aluminum wheels patterned after the Optima MID? They sure look nice to me but I wish he would make another version in the same style but scaled up a bit for modern tires. Has anyone ...

Yes the Practical Machinist forum is the place to be for machining questions, or really, questions about any sort of craft or trade. There are some real grizzled old school guys on there who know their stuff. Give thorough info when you ask a question there and you will get good responses. (I wouldn...

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm not sure yet what body I want to use. If I could find a new original body that would be great but it would probably cost an arm and a leg. I also like the Pro-Line Butterfly body that uses the original roll cage parts...There's many other possibilities, it's just a ...
