Re: ESC scrambled or poached?
Well, my Orion ESC actually does work after reverse polarity smoked the capacitors! - I just snipped off the old capacitors to give it a try, all seemed fine. - So I soldered on one of those Hobbywing non-polarity capacitors that I happen to have in my toolbox. I have run it around and all seems goo...

Re: ESC scrambled or poached?
I had the same thought about the Orion - I will try that. ** So the capacitors are really just for extra 'punch' to the motor, right? - In other words the ESC should still have proper basic functions without the caps? As far as the batteries and their receptacles - yes they do have receptacles on bo...

Re: ESC scrambled or poached?
In all my 39 years of playing with, building, racing R/C cars - I had never blown an ESC by pure stupidity... - Yes I have melted ESCs by abusing them or by trying run a shorted-out brushed motor back in the day, etc. Well, I made up for this by blowing TWO, yes TWO ESCs this weekend. - I am utterly...

Haha! Yeah and Mark doesn't even practice - seems like he learns the track in Heat #1 and starts winning by Heat #2 !! I think I read in an R/C Excitement update that they are integrating their indoor off-road track with an indoor dirt oval. - So I guess we will have at least one long, flat st...

I'll finally be able to come without wife/kids this time, which means I can stay/practice later on Friday and Saturday. Sunday will be a rough drive home, though...
You can't have any more practice time - you are already too fast!!
Kidding. I am looking forward to the races!

Re: ** 2022 Vintage Off-Road Nationals - R/C Excitement Inc., Fitchburg, MA - Sept. 23-25 **
Yes the 2wd class is much faster - any evolution of the original short-arm RC10 or the 5-link JRX-2, would be in the 2wd class (with open tire choice, 17.5 brushless, etc.). The plastic chassis caveat is only for "Classics" class, which has evolved mostly into 4wd entry-level (plastic chas...

May I ask about your Ballstuds?
It feels like I am making this issue more difficult than it needs to be, but here goes: What size are the ballstuds on an RC10 Worlds Car? - I think I figured out they are 3.85 cm ? - In order to fit original ballcups / or replacement RPM #73372 However I believe most of these threaded as 4-40, righ...

I guess I double-clicked on "Submit" ?
Well since I have this second post:
- Any news on if R/C Excitement will lay us out a more "vintage-friendly" track this year?!?

Re: ** 2022 Vintage Off-Road Nationals - R/C Excitement Inc., Fitchburg, MA - Sept. 23-25 **
RC10 and JRX-2 on original tires are not competitve in this class at all, in my opinion... - I would love to run either one of those models in Classics, but on the old hard tires it is not even fun (like driving in a wet ditch with a layer of algae at the bottom). - I vote to at least allow Jconcept...

Re: Cheap but good dual O-Ring shocks
Ahh okay, I see now in the manuals that the Worlds Car recommends a .062 limiter, but Team Car does not. And I did not realize the Worlds tower was shorter. Thank You very much!! That gets me a bit closer to understanding. So then it is a matter of finding the right combo of body/shaft to fit a non-...

Re: Cheap but good dual O-Ring shocks
This seems like a good place to ask about shock lengths. I am trying to rebuild a couple Team/Worlds-type buggies, hopefully for VONats this year. - I am not an expert on the very specific racer-level specs of the RC10. I do have quite a few already-built RC10 models with various purposes ...

Very Sweet!
I never owned a Big Bear, but totally remember them around when I was a kid!
- I did eventually own a Varicom Big Grizzly - although I could not keep it running very long, not a great design...

Re: RIP Ernie Provetti (Trinity)
The fast guys at our local tracks in the 1980s ran Trinity motors. My whole goal in life as a 12 year-old kid was to save up enough money to buy a Trinity 'Pure Gold'... - To this day the parts-mat on my work bench is a Team Trinity mat. I never met Mr. Provetti, though I think I saw him at 'RCX' in...
