Re: The RC-Mini 4wd thread!
Great looking Mini 4wds! I have a ton of the early ones. In fact, my first Tamiya product was a Monster Beetle Jr. I agree, they're great father/daughter projects. My little girl always loved my Lunch Box, and her eyes lit up when I got her the Jr version for her birthday one year.

Re: So......um, Traxxas
I just want echo the previous kudos to the fact we are indeed having intelligent discussion on a topic that all to often goes off the deep end. I am in complete agreement that there is no need to wipe Traxxas from the history books. Good or bad, the Bullet, Radicator, Sledgehammer etc. are all cool ...

Re: So......um, Traxxas
Actually, you're probably the most honest person about Tamiya's faults/durability that I know Dan. I hope this doesn't come across as a pot-stirring, Traxxas hate-a-thon. Dan's right, early Traxxas quality was crap compared to Tamiya. Tamiya hasn't changed. Still high quality but also not really ada...

So......um, Traxxas
So how does everybody feel about Traxxas nowadays? This mess with Tower has got me thinking. I know Tower (Hobbico) was probably in trouble long before the Traxxas lawsuit ordeal, but I can't shake the idea that losing Traxxas was the final nail in the coffin. I support the other manufactures leavin...

Re: First Time I've Ever Bought a New RC Car
(clears throat and gets up from Lazy Boy with help of a cane) You know, back in MY day, carpet was for those little 1/12th scale things and if you ran one of them duuuuune buggies, you raced on dirt like a real man. (sits down and goes back to watching Wheel of Fortune). I do badly miss dirt though...

Re: MIP Hot Shot diffs
Yeah, I noticed that. At least they give you the tool for it. I'd certainly be picking up re-release gear cases to bore out if I were installing these in an original.

MIP Hot Shot diffs
Just trying to spread the word about the (hopefully) upcoming MIP diff set for the Tamiya Hot Shot series. It's in the pre-order stage and they need 250 pre-orders to start production. While I yearn for the old days when hop-ups for these cars were abundant (and Thorp made drivelines for everything)...

Its alive! Glad you stuck with the Vaillant livery. I know the Jager look is popular, but I actually prefer the Vaillant.

Re: .
Ah, Tamiya's first RC car. Very nice! It will be interesting to see how it comes along. You don't see many restorations like this nowadays, even on Tamiyaclub, which is seeming to go more modern as the years go by. Patiently awaiting your progress.

What to do with Radio Shack Golden Arrow
I came across a Radio Shack Golden Arrow at the Hershey auto swap meet for $10 without a controller. Does this thing have any value without the remote? Basically, I'm debating throwing it on ebay or keeping it and modding it with real radio gear, oil filled shocks, etc. A kid up the street had one w...

Re: What is vintage? Is the timeline moving?
As far as vintage racing goes, I'm not too keen on continually moving the timeline forward. There came a time in RC when the "formula" for a competitive car got nailed down. Once that happens, everything forward is just tweaks on the proven design.

Re: .
Great story! It's so satisfying to take an old, out-of-commission RC model and get it back into running shape. As nice as new kit building can be, there's just more coolness-factor in bringing old stuff back to life (all the more so when using parts that have been squirreled away, makes the parts-ho...

Re: Pre real rc car.
Great topic with some pics of some awesome toys that brought back a lot of memories. My very first true RC was a 1/24th scale Nikko Fiero. (my Dad bought an '84 full size the year they came out) I saved my allowance for half a year to get it. I wanted full function, and that cost money back then. My...
