Sorry DerbyDan, I was having such a mare of a day with my XLS (trying to be too retro) that I didn't really socialise much - kind of missed the point of the event.
I came 7th with the C2 which is more of a reflection of my driving than the car.
Yep, I ended up adding some weight upfront. The car ran faultlessly all day and was very well balanced. The track had a large table top jump which my C2 seemed to handle better than just about everything on the day - perfectly balanced in the air.
Having moved on from racing this car to play with more modern machinery, the growth of vintage racing (and specifically the Iconic RC revival race this coming Sunday) have lead me to dig the C2 out and prep to race again. Whereas the XLS I'm building is all authentically specced with full spike tyre...
Time is running out and progress has been slow, although the car is practically complete (albeit a more basic spec than originally intended). I haven't had chance to take many photos recently, however here is an interesting one for you: https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/t31.0-8/10557...
I managed to get all the electrics checked, installed and bench tested over the weekend. During the week I need to do a bit of setup work and hopefully a couple more mods...
Here's a close up showing how neatly the velcro straps fit around the underneath of the chassis: https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xta1/t31.0-8/10348668_666858740071003_4831722435603310222_o.jpg Having taken delivery of the interim bodyset, I decided to carry on building around it just in...
Now I've finally got the suspension moving freely, I'll mount up the shocks and hopefully make the tool bars tonight. I probably won't fit them yet as I want to play about with the steering to make enough space for the front roll bar to mount underneath the to deck.
OK, time for a few updates about not a great deal of progress... I've struggled with getting the ball joints to operate smoothly. The combination of barely used, but old parts seems to mean everything is overly stiff. I managed to tweak the wishbone joints well enough, but the actual ball cups for t...
Hmmm...nothing in there unfortunately about how it mounts to the layshaft. I'm fairly sure it must be just a grub screw, but I'm surprised there weren't issues with mangled layshafts if that is the case.
More questions! This time for anyone who is familiar with the Wasp slipper: The main body of the slipper fits snugly over the nylon layshaft. The layshaft has a hole for a pin which would normally hold the nylon adaptor which the spurs is screwed to, but the slipper body has an M3 threaded hole, sug...
Soapy water in an ultrasonic cleaner. Does a great job at loosening the dirt, usually just needs a swill under the tap. I then use a little GT85 just to give a bit of a shine.
