Can you explain? What does that do for me? Where do I get wheels and tires?

Re: Restoring my first R/C - 1989 Kyosho Turbo Ultima

I think I'm ok on the electronics now...I spent all day reading about them and picking out what I want. The big ISSUE I have right now is wheels/tires. Mine are flat spotted from sitting on the shelf and bald. I know the rear is pretty easy since it's 12mm hex, but the front axle being 4mm seems lik...

Re: Restoring my first R/C - 1987 Kyosho Turbo Ultima

I saw this one on eBay - is mine a 1987 or how can I identify the year? I think it was 1987, but I'm thinking I based that on the key chain that it came with. 1989 makes a bit more since because I would have been a touch older (9). http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Kyosho-TURBO-ULTIMA-2WD-Off-Road-Bug...

Re: Restoring my first R/C - 1987 Kyosho Turbo Ultima

Kyoshojoe in an earlier post mentioned the radio plate being plastic and I should upgrade to the fiberglass one, but mine looks like it is fiberglass and not plastic. I can see the fiber pattern in the top and the rough sides with hints of fibers along the edges. So I'm good?? EDIT: It looks like I ...

Re: Restoring my first R/C - 1987 Kyosho Turbo Ultima

Well, I got out the box of parts today and cleaned and re-assembled the car with the items I plan on keeping. It has no electronics now, but I think I'm at a point where I can start adding stuff back. http://i68.tinypic.com/2cmvj40.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/2lsv77p.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/2nqqm3...

Re: Restoring my first R/C - 1987 Kyosho Turbo Ultima

Well, I recall from when I was oh..seven(?) that this thing was FAST. I may come to find out it's much more manageable at an older age, but honestly - I just want to get it back on the road with modern versions of the original stuff (meaning the cheap options). I think the NiMh will be find and I do...

Re: Restoring my first R/C - 1987 Kyosho Turbo Ultima

I'm trying, but I'm still not getting the confidence that I know what I should be ordering. How many turn motor do I want? Brushed vs. Brushless? I looked at Hobbywing like suggested, but Sensor vs sensorless? What are these program card things??? Sorry, I just don't know what I'm done here guys.

Re: Noobie: Restoring my first R/C - 1987 Kyosho Turbo Ulti

Also, I just noticed that it looks like the Released Kyosho Optima has the same transmission cover as mine, is that true? Does that help me in any way? That would be cool if I could modernize it.

Also, I see tons of Optimas, but not many people talk about the Turbo Ultima....Was it not as popular?

Re: Noobie: Restoring my first R/C - 1987 Kyosho Turbo Ulti

I think what I'm really struggling with is the electronics. I don't want to go back completely old school original, but I also do not want to spend a TON of money going with the latest and greatest. Can someone help me with recommendations or maybe has someone done a similar build? As much as I'd li...

Re: Noobie: Restoring my first R/C - 1987 Kyosho Turbo Ulti

Well, I'm back... I'm sorry to report that the build has gone nowhere. I completely disassembled the car to inspect, inventory, and plan the build - then I had a child. Needless to say it's in a box. Is there anyone on here that would restore the car for me at a reasonable rate with nimh weekend run...

Re: Noobie: Restoring my first R/C - 1987 Kyosho Turbo Ulti

Ok, I'm starting to pick my gear - it's been a while, so I'd take some advice if y'all have it. Here's what I'm thinking: - Radio: Spektrum dx2e - $59 (http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdId=SPM2322) - Receiver: Spektrum SR201 - $Included with radio - Speed Control: XP SC700-BL Senso...

Restoring my first R/C - 1989 Kyosho Turbo Ultima

I got this car when I was about 7 years old. I took good care of it, but it was run...a lot. So it's pretty scratched up and worn, but not really broken. I need a new UM-1 gear is about all I think, but I'm going to replace all of the electronics with modern stuff first. Looking forward to meeting y...

Re: Vintage restoration

I'm new and just tore apart my 87 Turbo Ultima and was asking myself the same questions. Thanks for the post, I'd like to see what everyone recommends. I think I'm going modern.
