Re: Charging, discharging and storing SANYO sub-c batteries.

I edited the Q&A below from a 2002 RCCA article with Jim Dieter. It pretty much sums up how I treated my batteries when I was racing in the late 80s. Q: At what amperage should I charge my packs? Do packs of different capacities require different charge amperages? A: As a rule, Ni-Cd batteries c...

Futaba - Older Discontinued Receiver and Servo Spec Lists

Futaba used to offer these two spec lists for their older discontinued receivers and servos. Now they're only available through the Internet Archives site. That's a bit of a pain. So I decided to edit them a bit, and post them here for easier reference. FutabaDiscreceivers.png FutabaDiscServos.png

Re: Composite Craft Predator Lynx re-build

Now, this part is a little interesting, at least to me  I hope you guys like it.....it's taken a lot of searchin, work, time and help from a friend in Spain that I know some of you guys have heard of/ordered from (Mr. Cesar Velayos Enriquez) to make up some custom, one off, labels. Re: Composite Craft Predator Lynx re-build

Ok....I think I figured out this video link thing.....So, FINALLY, after 2 years of hunting for parts and building an out door and indoor Composite Craft Predator Lynx....and 36 years after my last run with this, or any other RC car, at the '89 Oval Nationals.....here is a one lap shake down run vid...

Re: Vintage motor question

I'm sorry, that video was a little too long winded for me.

What was the question?

Re: Vintage motor questions/discussion

Here is a brush guide from the mid 90s. Screenshot_20250603_145646_Drive.jpg Anymore, I put serrated brushes on nearly everything, with a medium spring. I want my motors to run pretty good, for a long time. I'd rather preserve my vintage motors instead of trying to get every drop off power out. Comm...

Re: Vintage motor questions/discussion

You are likely referring to capacitors on the motor. They were used to reduce electrical noise. Newer 2.4ghz radios aren't affected. Some new motors still have them, they are just tiny (surface mounted) components. Diodes were also used back in the day. They were originally used on foreword/brake se...

Re: Vintage motor questions

I guess I was trying to create more of a discussion and learning environment. Asking your questions on YouTube is like asking for auto repair advice from people standing around in the DMV. In addition to juicedcoupe's reply, I always found Trinity's brush ad quite informative... https://www.rc10tal...

Re: Vintage motor questions

Comm Drops increased electrical conductivity between the brushes and the commutator for more power/rpm. RCCA did an excellent article on Comm Drops back in the day... I'll post a link when I find the article unless someone else beats me to it as it was a neat read. Found the article but for the lif...

Re: Vintage motor questions

What's the theory behind cut brushes? They were used for a variety of reasons, and any cut reduced the contact area on the comm which reduced friction to give you higher revs and more speed. The downside is it restricted current flow so you had less bottom end power. Because of this I usually used ...

Re: Vintage motor questions/discussion

Battery bugs were popular for NiCd.

Many used to drill a cavity in the brush and stuff a bit of cotton in it with comm drops.

Re: Vintage motor questions/discussion

In that first photo with the screwdriver at the top, those are all capacitors. The large one is an electrolytic, which means it is polarized. It has a positive and negative lead and must be installed correctly. The rest are non-polarized and can be installed either way. They are interchangeable as l...

Re: Vintage Sanyo Batteries

Generally if NiCd's aren't leaking they are still viable. NiCd's also cope with being in a long/deep discharge state.

People do collect old cells and yours look like they'll clean up well.
