Traxxas Sledgehammer Refresh
I picked up this Sledgehammer a while back, and it has finally ended up in the work queue. Bought it form the original owner who lived a couple of hours away. I could tell he loved the truck, and it came with a tackle box full of spares, and I could tell he really cared for this thing. Was not surpr...

Re: Traxxas Sledgehammer Refresh
For the existing electronics, the 2013 servo had a lot of play in it, so it needed help. I did some looking around, and the current Traxxas standard 2018 servo looks almost identical to the 2013, so I just cheated and swapped stickers between the two. I didn't notice until I started putting it toget...

Re: Traxxas Sledgehammer Refresh
Then, after getting all parts cleaned up and whitened if needed, the build begins. The original SC did not exist in the truck, so I tracked down an XL-1 and found a NIP super awesome heat sink. The original tub was acceptable, but I found a new one for a price I couldn't pass on. New skid plates are...

Re: Traxxas Sledgehammer Refresh
Oh, this is my #1 tip for anyone that wants to rebuild a Sledgehammer. Take lots and lots of pics, and measure your turnbuckles before disassembly! So far, I have found one online manual, and that is care of tamiyabase.com, and props to them for hosting it, but it is not very clear. I whipped throug...

Re: Traxxas Sledgehammer Refresh
I am going to chalk up the losing of the shocks as a blessing in disguise! Because, although I think the cheap plastic white shocks are most true to an original build, they ultimately look cheap. The black shocks also make it look a little like a second version whereas mine is a first version and I ...

Re: Traxxas Sledgehammer Refresh
Pro tip #2: If your body post springs are in need of replacing because they have seen way too many rollovers or are rusting, this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LD2S71C?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 is all you need. Ignore the fact that the description calls them compression springs, the...

Re: Picture of the day. (Taken by you)
Was getting my steps in at lunch, and was walking a trail near Henricus (2nd successful English settlement in the US). I was hoping to make it out as far as a fantastic sunken boat graveyard that is on the property, but the local power company is taking over the land and have destroyed the trail. :r...

Re: Picture of the day. (Taken by you)
So I have decided to make my lunch walks about history instead of nature or scenery driven. Today's walk was at Drewry's Bluff / Fort Darling. This is just south of Richmond along the James River, and Fort Darling acted as a river blockade to defend Richmond from the Union. Basically, if you are bri...

Re: Traxxas Sledgehammer Refresh
Managed to get a little time over the weekend on the final details. It is complete and operational with the original Traxxas radio that came with it. Couple of small complaints on the TBG / MCI combo. The lexan is .03" nominal, but gets thinner in stretched parts. Behind the rear fender wells, ...

I feel like today was a milestone in my life. The day when I retire the extension ladder, and set up my own personal masonry scaffolding!
This is literally a proud day!

Re: Picture of the day. (Taken by you)
Took this picture of a couple of Steermans this morning: flying circus steermans.jpg Then proceeded to strap on a parachute and jump in the front of 751 there. Not my video of course, but same pilot, basically same plane, and many of the same maneuvers. Skip to 2:50 for the good part. Exph5qfLb18
