The new style tank fills from the front window cutout. The old tanks were kind of a pain to fill with the body on through the side window but most 1/10 races were not long enough to refuel

Correct they are not meant to be run. Curtis said they are molded in polycarbonate not acrylic. Not as strong as nylon but not crazy weak either. It's more about the fact they are not selling replacement parts for them in clear

5 cell, 2/3A hump pack NiMh will fit in the same location and run a higher nominal voltage.

If the receiver has a BEC, it should handle 7.2 volts.
