Re: Do you display with or without electronics?
The car to me is just not complete unless it has full electronics including the battery. I try to use a functioning battery but am ok with a display only one if I am going with period correctness. I like to have the car ready to charge and go if I want to run slow laps around the office.

Re: Cherished electric motors
Not THE motor, but my best racing memories were with the B&R Magnum. So I was stoked when one came attached to a buggy I picked up a while back. Now it will be on display in a build I am working on (slowly). 20221016_225404.jpg I have a Magnum as well and was blown away when I put it on my moto...

Re: HPI Street Machine restoration
The diff didn't work at all and taking it apart revealed why. IMG_20210128_180720.jpg What the......... IMG_20210128_181514_copy_2448x1836.jpg Double sided tape used as a diff locker. Hmm, never saw that before. The axle will need replacing since it's an old Bolink steel type and bent anyhow...

Re: HPI Street Machine restoration
Since the original chassis was essentially junk, I fired up my cad program and drew a new one and sent to Jeff at Factory Works. Not long after it arrived in the mail. The quality he puts out is simply amazing! Thanks Jeff! IMG_20220409_201755.jpg IMG_20220409_202820.jpg Rebuilt the rear pod and che...

Is this Snuffy Smith / Ralph Burch Jr. 1988 Prototype Hyperdrive?
Some time ago I came across an Ebay listing for an old Hyperdrive car. The seller mentioned it was an old National record holder in its day. I was interested but let it pass and moved on. The listing was removed so I figured it sold long ago. Then a year or so later, it shows back up on Ebay so this...

Re: Is this Snuffy Smith / Ralph Burch Jr. 1988 Prototype Hyperdrive?
Wow! Sure looks like the real deal to me...awesome! Seriously nice find there! Steering blocks are white vs. black...but bending kingpins and swapping blocks was common bitd...and they're the same style. Yep - that is the only difference I see as well. You may be right about the front end being reb...

Re: Is this Snuffy Smith / Ralph Burch Jr. 1988 Prototype Hyperdrive?
This looks like the car to me and a great find! The RCCA article mentions it getting stepped on by a corner marshall.. do you see any signs of that? Funny you mentioned that. I did notice some body creases and a large one on top of the roof kinda shaped like someone's foot. It's hard to capture wit...

Re: Need pics of Team Ugly quick change battery setup.
😀 nailed it! Yep, got the itch to work on it again. Just not having much luck with examples to go by. I may have to give it a guess and go from there. I was also thinking of leaving the motor the way it is with all the patina on it. Just clean up the internals. I was amazed how smooth the diff was a...
