When I get around to trimming & painting the body. Maybe in a few weeks...I've got a lot going on at the moment and can't seem to find much time to work on RC stuff. At least tonight, I removed the ugly blue AE turnbuckle that I was using temporarily for the steering servo and replaced it with a nice purple titanium Schumacher unit, and got all 4 wheels mounted with black HPI 4x14x1.5mm washers, so all you see now are the green lock-nuts--no more silver alloy spacers.

It's just one of those cheap $8 metal gear digital servos over at HobbyPartz.com, I bought it when I got the FlySky GT3B radio & extra receiver. Now it's selling for a few bucks more.

Actually, I didn't buy it because of the purple label, honest! It was just the cheapest hi-torque digital metal gear servo available on that site, and it was a suggested purchase when I added the radio to the online cart. The label is actually not adhered very well, I might take the sticker off once I'm sure everything's working perfectly. One of my pet peeves is stickers...I HATE stickers!

Thanks Mark, for me, it's all about the details, that's what separates "great" from "good enough". Unfortunately it's also much more time-consuming...

Finally a free evening and time to do some bodywork.

The original Optima body might as well not even have cut lines, for all the modification that will be needed to fit this onto Barney's chassis.

The beefed-up front & rear shock towers, sideguards, stiff Tacon brushless motor wires and my custom antenna mount, not to mention adjustments to the mounting holes for the body pins, all require modifications to the Optima body. It'll be worth it in the end, though.

Next time you get some crappy, badly-painted or trimmed body, don't throw it out...use it to plan your next paint scheme, and to test where you'll need to trim when compared to a GOOD body.

I just placed the properly trimmed crapola body on top of my basher body to help me mark where to trim the "good" body.

This purple & green body is just a basher body that I made from one that I'd tried to remove the paint from. It was originally a real mess after 3M Fine Line vinyl tape got bleed-through everywhere and I finally said "screw it" and removed all the paint as best I could. The zebra design was done with Liquid Mask...no more futzing around with masking tape for me.

I also used this body to play around with FasGlitter, and my first airbrush job too. Hopefully I'll be able to take what I've learned to do a really nice body that would do the big purple & green beast proud.

I have a curiosity, how can the axial beadlocks hold a standard 2.2 tire??
just put i in the groove and screwed?
or it's not so standad?

Thanks for the comments! The narrow crawler wheels should take any 2.2" tire with a width between 37 and 42 mm or so. I used Proline Caliber M3's, which have an 88mm outside diameter and are 42mm wide. I just put them on the inner plastic wheels with the included foam inserts, then bolted on the beadlock rings. On page 3 of this thread, I was looking at 4 different tire options, maybe this will help you pick some tires:

And that's just the basher body...the one I'm in the process of planning & painting is going to be awesome, but is a logistical nightmare...

I had just readed in other post about 380 sized motors that barney has a 900w motor!!

only 3200kv , but 900w !!! that's more than one hp = superb acceleration

Is the optima trans capable of deal with that amount of power??????

When finished please please make a video to see how it ....runs?....fly?

Hi José, honestly I never gave much consideration to the motor's max wattage. Watts = Volts x Amps, which in this case would be 7.4V x 60A (max, from the ESC) which is 444 watts. The specs that matter are the 3200kV x 7.4V (LiPo) and that it's an 11T motor, it's not really that radical...it should put out about 23k to 24k RPM, which is actually less than a Le Mans 240SB on 8.4V. Here's the exact same motor reviewed on YouTube, you'll see some driving tests at about 5 minutes in...it seems pretty manageable.

I hope the drivetrain is as strong as possible; it has the hard final pinion, belt drive conversion, limiter gear and I can use an 8, 9 or 10-tooth pinion gear. I can also adjust the punch with the ESC. I think Barney will be fine.

I'll definitely take a video this spring, we still have some snow on the ground here!
