Now that I look closer I see it, I wonder if the Losi provide more caster?

like i mentioned before, the traxxas axle knuckle is very similar to the losi part. Stick a 1/8" ream in the caster block, and stick it all together. very simple.

OR, use the losi caster block and spindle, and just stick it on the arm, possibly with a spacer. again, very simple. slightly looser fit, however.

There must have been a method to the madness :D

I believe the TRX-1 has 25 deg castor out of the box. Was the Losi at the time was JRX Pro SE? Perhaps the Losi castor block had 5 deg built in. This would give 30 deg without adding the wedges.

*Edit* Page 33 of the manual: "Your TRX-1 has 30 degrees of caster in the front suspension".

Are the original traxxas wheels the same diameter, width, offset and material as the associated ones? If not each factor could explain why he'd swap the parts.

Well I got a lot of parts in today: Antenna, Bullet rear rims, tires are on their way from Steve, also will pick up some silver springs tomorrow. Also scored some RPM shock collars that should be here next week. Test fitted up a mock up wing and it turned out OK, just need to make a couple of adjustments before I finish the permanent one. Motor and new Body with the right decals and I should be close :D

Just and FYI I attached a pic of the exact car Scott ran at the Nats, hopefully I can get it right.

Thats a sweet looking ride.
What was the outcome of the Nat's - Qual/Finals?
Looking at the pic, the TRX-1 would have been well suited to the conditions.

I will have to look at the results but Scott qualified 4th and finished 7th?

Got the silver springs on it and the RPM rear shock collars. Looking at the pick though I think the wing mounts aren't losi but rather associated "tear drop" mounts?

I also have a soft spot for the TRX-1, great car.

I am very fortunate to have in my posession Darrin Campbells car (very sucessful Aussie driver) form the 91 worlds in Detroit. I picked up the car in a bulk lot from Darrin and sadly they were all in a terrible state - rust and dirt etc (see my AYK boost resto thread). What makes Darrins car special is that it has one of the protoype gearboxes in it - almost clear delrin - and a couple of other special parts especially for the worlds.

I will put together a couple of pics if anyone is interested - or would you prefer that I make another thread - as I dont want to spoil this one!

A month or so ago I managed to score a nice TRX-1 out of Texas for 50 dollars - and I will be rebuilding one replica of Darrins car.

Cheers

Darryn

Yes the TRX- 1 was very popular over here in Aus. Brendan Coleman won the Nationals and Vic States (stock) with one in 1992.

That car had a milled chassis from memory. Glad I kept my original from 1992 :)

Well I added a new chassis, turn buckles, tranny, and wing wire. I tried a Blue Groove Body and its crap, wings are crap. Hopefully a Cobra Ken body will soon grace this baby

Losi didn't have build in degrees in carter blocks during that time, front kickup and caster were both 30 degrees.

I did managed to get Losi's 25-degree hand modified prototype caster blocks for Losi XX, but it was after 1995 worlds. There were made from standand caster blocks by putting some cement or glue to it's lower arm mounting hole and then that hole was drilled again, but in 5-degree angle.
