Ten4: the 4WD RC10 project

Post by mk-Zero »

EDIT: See thread here for complete listing of Ten4 parts and where to buy them

Thought I would start a new thread on this, outside my "Tuning Options" thread, since it's going to be a pretty big project.
Jeff (GoMachV) and I are taking this on together. Jeff will be doing a lot of the mockup work, working out details of mounting components on the front end etc, and I'll be doing design and CAD modeling. The basic plan is an MIP style setup with a 2-gear trans up front that will use a Stealth diff and a modified Stealth idler as an input, and then the rear Stealth will have a modified idler as an output shaft. We'll probably make a new rear bulkhead that will have an integrated mount in it for the belt tensioner/guide, and another tensioner or guide for the front. Up front it will use caster blocks based off b44 blocks that will correct the width and caster, and then B44 steering blocks and CVAs. And of course long RC10 front arms.
So for now, I have designed and received the first itteration of the 2-gear stealth box, looks good. Jeff sent me some gears to try in it, so hopefully this weekend I'll know if everything fits properly. If so, the trans case and gears will go back to Jeff for him to figure out how to mount/position it.

I have also designed the modified b44 caster blocks. I'll order these from Shapeways soon.

And yes, when we get this all worked out we will make everything avalable so you can build your own

Excellent! Very exciting project! I saw this on your FB page, and although I'm mostly into vintage 1:8 scale Associated and Delta cars, I will definitely order this set once it becomes available...so put me on the list!
I have a ton of RC10 parts, so building a 4wd with this should be fairly easy!

Front Drivetrain:
3438 Low Profile 8-32 nuts
7369 Axle Pin
9647 Steering Spacers
9749 Front CVA Kit
9750 Wheel Adapter
9751 Bearing Spacers

Front Transmission:
3926 Diff Rebuild kit

6578 LH Outdrive
6580 Diff Gear
6581 3/32 Balls

Rear transmission
6565 stealth case (only needed on ReRe worlds)

Rear Suspension:
6262 Turnbuckle (1.65”)

TBA

Nose Plate:
6310 Nose Plate (must NOT be cut style, mostly needed for Worlds kits)

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

As of June 21, 2015 these parts total $111.40 from Tower Hobbies without nose plate, coupons or shipping

All Parts can be sourced as needed from other manufacturers

Some parts may not be needed for all applications. For example, most people will have 4 wheel bearings to reuse from their 2wd front wheels, but some will not. Parts list assumes worst case scenario.

Ohhhh it's game on alright! 8)
Hopefully tonight I'll have an update showing gears in that case! Assuming that goes fine the assemble is off to Jeff for him to work his magic
