My original Gallery post was quite outdated and I figured could use some streamlining.

I joined this forum after digging my old Kyosho Optima out of storage and decided to restore it. I removed some googly-eyes stickers that were cute at the time, but seemed childish now. I've upgraded parts with gold aluminum when I've been able to track them down, and the hunt continues for elusive gold C-carriers.

This is my brother's Marui Galaxy, which I rebuilt & upgraded for my brother. It's his car but I found it hiding in a box in my house for 20+ years, unbeknownst to either of us. I resto-modded it and unveiled it for him on his birthday. He was quite blown away, to say the least.

Mods & hop-ups:

-Bushings, oilless metal replaced w/bearings
-Wheels & tires upgraded with modern Carson wheels & low-profile tires
-Blue parts (except roll-cage) replaced w/NIP parts
-3 black upper chassis covers replaced w/NIP covers
-Custom-fit a larger new wing using a wire mount instead of bolting the wing directly to the roll-cage
-Custom-fit 3Racing 54.5mm shocks to replace the hinky-dink tiny-diameter stock shocks
-Fabricated new rear shock towers & modded rear control arms to fit 54.5mm shocks & ball-ends
-Upgraded steering linkage from weak & badly bent 1.5mm rods & L-bends to 3mm threaded rods, balls & ball-ends
-Upgraded powertrain from stock MSC & tin-can Mabuchi to freshly rebuilt Kyosho Le Mans 480 Gold, Tamiya Grasshopper re-re ESC, 7.2V 4200 mAh battery

This project began with a set of sweet aluminum wheels that I acquired, but I wanted to do something different than yet another 4WD Optima. I hadn't seen too many vintage mid-motored RWD cars, they're not even that common now, so I made that my goal for this build. Early on, I also wanted to incorporate an upgrade to the steering bellcrank, using an alloy unit with bearings.

I always dreamed of having a Grand National RC car, but no GN body was ever made (in Lexan, anyway). Over the years, I discovered that a toy-grade RC was sold in 1:10 scale with a same-era Buick Regal body, but that RC car was some stupid-looking monster truck thing on idiotic huge wheels. I found a guy in Sweden (I think) who sold me the body only, but when I received it, the wheelbase, width, scale...everything was wacky. So I pretty much gave up on that idea.

It wasn't until later I discovered that TBG made a Monte Carlo body that was as close as you could get to a GN, but it was in 1/12 scale. So, I figured I'd try going that route instead, finding that with some luck and patience, 12th-scale pan car chassis' could sometimes be had on eBay for very reasonable prices, and ended up buying a chassis lot with 4 chassis plates, which included this AE RC12L3, so I decided that would be my platform for an attempt at building a GN.
