Some nice pictures for Mr Lexan to hide from his wife
All of these pictures were taken on the coastal road that runs out to the mouth of the Otago harbour. As you can see it the first picture there is a wharf that handles a lot of export timber and dairy products. In fact on February 1882, the first refrigerated sailing ship called "the Dunedin" sailed with 4331 mutton, 598 lamb and 22 pig carcasses, 246 kegs of butter, as well as hare, pheasant, turkey, chicken and 2226 sheep tongues to England a voyage which took 92 days. As for the timber during the Great Depression thousands of unemployed men spent hours of back breaking work planting out pine plantations. They planted out so many that even at todays present rate of felling we are still no where near the growth rate of the trees..in other words it grows faster than we can cut them down. All of this is about 15 minutes out of town.
Just to put things in perspective the photo of the light house was taken at Aramoana the scene of a mass shooting 16 years ago, which resulted in the deaths of 15 innocent people by a nutter with too much time on his hands and too many guns..there was a movie made of it called "Out Of The Blue"
If you have any questions about anything ask away..
Pete

Yeah that will be the tough part..but it will depend on what sort of lifestyle you are after...our big citys aren't much different than yours in all aspects..work,housing schooling etc..but if you want to go hunting and fishing or you just love the beach that is where the real differences are. For example I can take the dog to a beautiful white sand beach that's about half a mile long and I'm often the only one there..unless the surfs workin..the city I live in has 120.000 people..it has a huge university and is only a few hours away from the ski fields or trout fishing rivers..we are currently building a World class motorsport park which will be used in conjunction with the alpine vehicle testing facility in the Queenstown alpine mountain ranges..so if it's a netch you're looking for they can be found...
