Candy Sticks?

Post by Greenie »

So I'm going through my kids Halloween candy and I find a small box labelled "candy sticks." I pop it open and to my surprise they weren't "candy sticks" at all. They were Candy Cigarettes. LOL As an '80's kid I know full and well the difference between a candy stick and a nice soothing candy cigarette. :) No wonder I smoked for 13 yrs.

Yep, little white sugar sticks with a red 'glowing' end.
Back in the day they were made to look just like cigarette packs-- here's some: http://candy-crate.stores.yahoo.net/cancig1.html
Candy used to be so cool.

Yeah, now they come in Spiderman, Hulk and Batman boxes I think. My question is: Why do they still make 'em? They're not particularly good. The only appeal as a kid was that you could pretend you were smoking. It seems hilariously politically incorrect now. They even had the pink dye on the tip so it looked like it was lit. They came in fake Pall-Mall and Marlboro boxes. My theory as to why they still have them is that they are still unloading all the surplus candy cigarettes they had left when they were made to stop packaging them as cigarettes. I think they're all about 20 years old. I bought them all the time as a kid and smoked for 7 years myself.

I never liked the Candy ones, but over here they did chocolate ones wrapped in thin white paper, came in cigarette packs like Lucky strike, soft with foil ends, no idea what teh chocolate was, but if I ever see them I buy them even now
Never smoked a real one in 47 years, even though I lived in a Tobbaconists till the age of 8

I always thought the candy sticks had slightly better flavor than the gum found in packs of baseball cards.

Anyone remember the gum cigs? They were gum sticks wrapped in cig paper with a some kind of powder between the white paper and the gum, so you could puff them and make "smoke" clouds. LOL.....
