My Jeep decided to stop running.

Post by soniccj5 »

Today my wife and I started down the highway to meet up with a friend. We started hearing a small knocking sound, which at first I thought was a header leak. Well the knocking got louder, so I pulled into the breakdown lane. That is when I decided it was time to call the time of death and shut it down. I put on the four way flashers and opened the hood. Smoke was pouring out of the carb, never a good sign. Called my dad who still had an old tow bar from back in the day when I would break my Jeep at least once a week. About 45 mins later we had the Jeep back in my garage.

As my Jeep was sitting on the side of the road all I could think about was how this would eat into my R/C Buggy money. The up side is no one was hurt and I still have another vehicle to drive.

As it sits today.

Old CJ's never die, they only rest from time to time--and the motor options and parts are easy to find and fairly cheap

Nope going to stick with the AMC 360. I did think about a 350 when I was getting ready to put a V8 in, but thought it was going to cost more.. I was wrong.

This morning I am replacing the brake lines on my wife's car. What a weekend..

I now have my replacement engine waiting to go in.

Here is the problem with my old engine. It has at least 200k so it was time for a rebuild anyway.

Im a Ford guy but I defenatly would have put a stock replacement type SB Chevy in it. You just can't beat the price for parts and they can be found anywhere.

For race motors however the price is the same for Ford or Chevy...................Every penny in your bank account

I have been very happy with the AMC. When I first converted to a V8 I thought about a Chevy, but figured it would cost more for all the adapters.
