http://www.easeus.com/try.htm
My wife had to buy this software when a memory card was erased after a photo shoot. You can try the software and it will let you see if the files are recoverable. If they are you'll have to shell out some $$, but it's better than losing all that data. Good luck and deep breaths.

Data recovery from hardware failure is thousands of dollars... I know I had to do it for work three years ago and it was over $1800. The internals of the HD self-destructed and the arm was buried in the media. They have to take it apart in a clean room (think ET white lab gear) and move the media into a new case.treehugger wrote:well he said if you he would recover the information for $150 he said the cost is usually nearly a thousand but you would have to send it to him its a shame its not a pc then you could send the hard drive his number is 206 274 7601 htt://www.WAcomputerServices.com he also said the more you fiddle the harder it gets his name is Hoi
This should just be a matter of running a program to see if you can get the images back.
REALLY considering trying the EASEUS software. You can run the demo to see if it finds the images and then you can download the software. My wife deals with digital media all the time and for less than $100 she saved an entire 2GB of someone's wedding photos. They would have been SOL.
Good luck.

Yeah, I've already restored the recycle bin, but to no avail--I'm going to put this on hold until tomorrow when my head is a bit more, um level. Thanks to everyone who posted, with any luck I
can get my photos back and still remain a non smoker (I quit 2 weeks ago and this isn't really helping, all my 2005-09 racing prototypes are documented here, as is my vintage restos and my now 5 year old son, I'm having a really hard time dealing with this!)

I've been a computer technician for 13 years now and the one thing I cannot put enough emphasis on is to back up your stuff!! I've literally gotten into fights with people over lost data!
This isn't directed at anybody here I just don't like to see people lose things the closest to them when it can be easily and cheaply avoided.

Re: Need PC photo recovery help BAD
Reggie, sorry to hear that.
I had a HD go bad and luckily was able to recover many of the files right before it died. (it made the most horrible noise I have ever heard come from a computer.) lost a few months of the kids pictures though.
I would try one of the software packages listed above as they will likely be able to get the pics back as long as the drive is in woking order.
Once you are recovered I suggest using something like http://www.goodsync.com/
I have this installed on my desktop, and have it set to sync between the desktop, my laptop, and the wife's laptop once a month via my home wireless network. I occasionally hook up my external hard drive and sync that too. This means i have 4 copys of photos/documents in case one computer goes belly up. It also allows me to upload photos from my camera to any of the 3 pc's knowing they will get put onto the others with the next sync. well worth the $30
