I hope all goes well with it. I don't think theres anything worse than back pain! I hurt my lower back last year shoveling snow and again this year carrying a computer down the stairs and just moved the wrong way. I was on ibuprofen and could only walk with a cane for a week.

Unrelated but February 1st i'm going to get a complete physical. Blood tests, X-Rays, Electrocardiogram, the whole nine yards. The big deal is I haven't been to a Doctor in... 15 years. Last time I went to one I was a teenager and now i'm 30. The reason i'm going is I had a pretty bad scare a week or so ago where I should have went to the emergency room but crawled into bed instead. I was in tremendous pain all across my lower abdomen. It took me a week to recover from it but i'm still feeling the effects of whatever it was/is. :?

Fastang: Its not that bad, I had it done last Feb and feel great. Before the surgery I was in constant pain all the time, and all it took was two good falls (on ice) to end up like you had described, but I was paralyzed from the waste down (pretty scary) for about 3 days . Get it done and don't think twice about you'll wish you had it done sooner. Just remember to do what the Docs tell ya and do your physio. Good luck bro.

Kidney stone maybe?

Back pain does suck. I've always been in good shape and felt like I was strong until I sneezed one day and it floored me. I couldn't walk for a week. Try telling your employer you cant come to work because you sneezed.

Good thing you don't work for me! But it's really F'ed up how non of us "feel" any different (at least mentally than we did at 18, but our bodies are telling us otherwise--I remember my pops and his buddies telling me 15 years ago not to race MX with such furiousity when I was 16 "it will catch up to you" bullshit! I said!) that was 15 years ago :(

Hope all goes well fastang,
I am getting to the same situation you have I have pains in my lower back most of the time for the last 8 years. Last year I got a MRI with a back specialist and the last disk on my spine is black like you mentioned. Did some therapy but at the time I got layoff and it came out craze expensive for me so I had to do all therapy on my own. It helps a bit but I am thinking in some not so far future I might have to go to the table and get it fix.

Hope everything works out and keep us posted. Tell your doc that one of the things that help with the pain is getting your hands on a nice NIP RC10  the insurance might help if the doctor recommends it.

hope the best for you.

fastang wrote: A fusion or a disk replacement. The replacement sounds like a better option but my insurance wont cover it. They say its not "proven" yet, even though its been done in Europe for years with great success.
My mom went thru the fusion process 20+ years ago with success and a guy I work with went thru the replacement process a year ago or so with success. Both processes work and both processes will leave you with limited pain from what I see. After these processes both really only seen relief with a different lifestyle. I have been warned myself that I need back repair but have been putting it off. At 40 years old I won't be able to get a different lifestyle going with being and industrial carpentar. Its all I really know and can't afford to go backwards moneywise til I wipe out some of my debt. And at this point hydrocodone still works like my best friend

Either repair method will be good for you though and turn out great. Good luck on your back...and to you too Scr8p on the eyes again.

I went through this over 20 years ago. I was losing motor control of my left leg. Fortunately it came right back.

Best wishes.

You too scr8p.
