Interchangeability of RC10 parts (Goldpan/ds/B2/B3/B4/GT)

Post by Toasted Coastie »

Can RC10 GT rear suspension mounts be used in place of the RC10 gold pan suspension mounts?

Unfortunately not, they're different, I can't remember how though. I don't have either set in front of me to tell you what's different about them.

No all different offset. 10T rear arm mounts will fit though but thats it out of what u mentioned mate. B2 cums close but holes slightly out and a fair amount of material needs to be removed for arm to fit.

I just compared some GT rear mounts with a 10T chassis. The hole pattern is very close, almost perfect, but I think the GT uses 6-32 hardware, so you might have to drill out the holes a bit. The problem is that the arms will sit about 2-3mm forward, so you can either put up with the shorter wheelbase or grind some material off the front and use washers or spacers in the rear.

From a handling standpoint, GT rear mounts don't have any anti-squat built in, so you'll have to use a washer under the front screw, or rear up on the handling characteristics and tune accordingly.

All good to know. Now, the next question, DS wheels on a non DS chassis. I know that you can turn a DS into an of road RC10, but what if you want to keep the offroad posture, but have low pro tires and wheels from a DS? Better yet? what road tires (with DS like pattern) are out there for 2.2 wheels? See where I'm going with this?

Thank you all, I have learned a ton from this site, especially how much I love these little cars.....

Edited to add: from what I have gleaned from all the build manuals (DS, RC10, RC10T) the rear arm mounts are all the same part number: asc6360, which seems to be out of production. However, I found one store with some in stock (I think), but they have yet to email me back....

DS front wheels use the standard 3/8" OD bearings, and the rear wheels will fit the 3/16" rear axles. The DS wheels were ~1.65" diameter, so much smaller than even the standard touring car wheels. Pro-Line still makes 2.2" rear street tires, but not fronts. For some street tires try Custom Works Street Trac tires. They look identical to Pro-Line Strikers. HPI's super-size touring car slicks will also fit 2.2" rear wheels, so try them or tires from other manufacturers. You can always cut and narrow tires for front wheels.

eak. Without getting too technical (ie: dumb it down, because I am; afterall a n00b) how the f do you do that without ruining them? I have a hard enough time glueing.....

Pretty much just cut them down the middle with scissors, trim off as much as you want, then glue them back together. Guys used to do it in the early days of touring car racing, when narrow tires were cool, and legal. People also used to do it with buggy tires to get them to fit on touring car wheels to make rally car tires. Before there were a multitude of options for rock crawlers and scale 4x4s, it was popular to narrow or reduce the diameter of truck tires too.

I have only done it with some older style Pro-Line waffle tires, which were the hot setup for the old local clay oval, mounted on older Tamiya front wheels. It worked OK when you paid attention to how clean the edge was, but that was a harder compound of rubber. You might just want to stick with Custom Works tires and wheels LOL

TC,you can put 2.0 tires like I did on one of the DS cars,or you can use the traxxas conversion which I have also done. you can see on my to drill or not to drill glass chassis. good guck on your build Johnny

This whole post got me thinking... Why not have a post with all of the interchangeable parts that Associated makes? It might be good to make it a sticky so that people can find out what works and what doesn't work.
