Yokomo & their association with AE?

Post by DerbyDan »

I've just started to get into the old Yokomo cars & looking at the different types etc (its very confusing at first glance) Up until now my only involvement with any Yokomo products is with a friend's Chris Grainger edition touring car.

Thing is there is obviously a connection between Yokomo & the Associated brands - the old Associated team drivers (the likes of Cliff Lett, Masami & Craig Drescher) always ran RC10s for 2wd & Yokes for 4wd - later on the cars shared some parts like shocks & slipper assemblies. Reedy obviously always provided the team motors & the cans were Yokomo supplied. So what is the story? When did it start, what was the arrangement & how/when did it end? Now AE have there own 4wd Buggy & have had a touring car since the TC3.... Yokomo now it seems sells very little?

Sorry if this has been asked before - but i'd be interested to know :D

Thanks

Dan

Thanks TamiyaDan - so I guess it was quite an amicable alliance for a long while - quite an achievement when you consider that both companies were both relatively small yet communicating across continents with the language barrier etc... I wonder what made them go their seperate ways - was it when Thunder Tiger took over AE?

By the way looks like Yokomo are still producing some tasty stuff

Edit - I guess this explains it best; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yokomo
