i was actually wrong with my original post about it. they played at the junior high, not the senior high. i was still in elementary school. missed it by a year.
I was thinkin you were old Jason.
To date my age a little more...I wasn't really a VanHalen fan til Sammy Hagar took over David Lee Roth's spot in the front row. From there I learned to appreciate most of what VanHalen had to offer...

The new Beastie Boys video has some cow bell. And not just any cow bell player, the greatest cow bell player of all time. It's a good video, I think the cow bell kicks at just before 3 minutes or so.
I can't access youtube vids on my work computer(guess they think we should be working ), but what about pipe banging? Like a cowbell with an attitude. A perfect example I can think of right off is Sacred Reich "Independent". Great album all the way thru IMHO.

Pipes eh? How about a sledge hammer and a piece of steel? "All the Live Long Day" by Harvey Milk. These guys make some awesome music. This video is poor quality, but you get to see the sledge in action.

One more for good measure. No cowbell or sledge, just sludge.

The Beastie Boys were, are and will always be in my top 5 favorites of all time. I hope they shy away from the politics a bit and get back to their roots on this next cd.

No doubt. If they had split up before the 90s hit, they would have gone down in history as something special. I still love 80s Metallica, but anymore when I hear their name I cringe a bit.

Metallica = Metal
There is one metal band that stands taller than all others.

While I can absolutely see where you’re coming from, I have to respectfully disagree. Me and a few of my friends argue over this on occasion.
I’ll admit they may have lost some of their edge starting in the 90’s, but it’s still great music. Hard, but melodic at the same time which isn’t easy to do over and over again. I know a lot of people bashed their St. Anger album, but I loved it! 8 minute songs with long guitar solos and hard hitting tight bass. And Death Magnetic!! Oh man, they really came with that one. My only beef with it was that it was so over-engineered. It’s like they tried to funnel it. No deep lows or high highs. Other than that it was killer old school Metallica. I’ve read different things. One theory was that it was due to the influx of headphone use with mp3 players, but good headphones like Bose, Shure or Beats have all the range you need from even their earbuds. I wish they’d release a re-master of it.
Not to take anything away from Dio. I loved Sabbath with him and with Ozzy.
