Tamiya Boomerang

Post by Rizzo »

G'day Guys
I recently bought this re re boomer for my son Dominic. I didn't want to do another box art boomer so we tried to do something a little different. I had all the blue bits chrome plated, changed the yellow shocks for some chrome yeah racing items, painted the shell in perl clear, then mettalic red, white & gunmetal grey, a little bit starsky & hutch style. I painted the wheels black & drilled out the 5 lug plastic nuts & installed screws & bolts commonly found in SS wheels , but back to front so that they look like scale wheels nuts. I really like how u can see the chromed roll bar inside the shell. It's all stock apart from bearings, as Dom will use this when he gets a bit older for vintage racing in 4wd stock class. Even with the stock 540 & the smallest pinion , it flew with a 4200 lipo, I was really surprised, it even gave my bigwig a run for it's money with the technigold & 3200 lipo.
One complaint with the boomer was with the front dogbones. They were binding terribly, I had to file down about 2mm off the length & also taper the tabs so that it ran smooth with the steering turned. Otherwise it was sweet.
Sorry the action pics aren't that good, my 7 year old daughter Sienna took the pics as Dom & I were driving.
it won't be to everyones taste but I think it's pretty cool, most of all Dom loves it!

Awesome shots your girl took. Excellent, did it cost much to plate the plastic pieces?

I have to agree. Your cars are simply awesome...some of the best I've seen! And that chrome plating on the plastic really adds a top-grade finish (I did the same with my Blackfoot). Very nice work!!

Btw: which shocks are those?

Looks good :D

Hotshot front dogbones are a bit shorter than the boomerang ones.

Love those shots on your first post, that boomer looks sweet!! This car got me into RC, although I never owned one - jumped to a Mid-Custom, but my mate had one which inspired me!
