Bought an early rc12L, got some q´s!

Post by Tomas Karlsson »

Hi!
I did find this mint RC12L on a forum in Sweden.
Seems to have an early graphitechassis, the question is, when exactly did associated produce this kit? And is it rare? The front end is also two bolted and i have another one with a regular carbonchassis and three bolts on the front susp.

Happy for answers!

I raced pan cars for a year or two so I'm far from an expert. But I was under the impression that the early stuff had a straight axle in the front. This 12L looks very similar to my RC12LW. But then again, these things changed names with a simple update it seemed.

It is a early graphite car I dont know about rare but their not expensive. I have a bunch of them and have a hard time getting 50 bucks for them new built. it is a nice car though. their just doesnt seem to be much of a vintage onroad following. other than a few shelf queens people have of cars they raced when they were young.

It's the first version of the carbon 12L the rc12l was first a fiberglass car with rc12i front arms with the bolted brace. Also the bumper was the same as the rc12i. The carbon car went from a plastic motor bulkhead to the aluminum one same part # as the rc10l other then that they are the same. Hope this helps :)

This is the first version of the RC12l Associated came out with. I believe they built/ran this version from 1985-1989. If I'm not mistaken, in 1990 Associated came out with the next revision the RC12lw (Worlds) that used the three bolt front end arms, and a delta shock from the pod forward to the front t-bar screw. I could be a little off in my dates, but I think it's close.

Nice find.
I am an RC Scalehead and I am proud of it!

That's a nice clean first generation RC12L. Hollow rear body posts. Should have been from around 1987.

I have the exact same 12 in my possession, my brother bought new in the mid 80's - maybe in '86?
Unfortunately for me, it isn't in as nice condition as yours

We had tons of fun with our 12's back then, I'll never forget that time of my life, whenever I see a 12 it brings me back 8) I hope to restore both of our 12's asap.... which reminds me I need to update that thread of mine

It´s nice to hear that you keeped your old cars, i did not and now i am in the hunt for some pancar chassis i miss from back in the days.
But i have bought several twelve scale cars recently so i think i need to slow it down a bit or i get single pretty fast:)
Need to do a separate thread...
