Need Help! Brushed setup 1993 RC10T

Saludos from Puerto Rico, this is my first post! I have been reading this forum for a while and you guys are great! I am starting to understand how everything works. I recently took my RC10T out of wherever it was (Last driven in 95) changed the batteries , took it to the track and it seems I have forgotten how much fun this was. Now i am hooked and I want to make my truck faster. I dont want to overpower it, as I know this Vintage models have value but, if i can make it as fast as possible without compromising the tranny that would be great . I will drive it mainly in an Off Road Short Course.

This is my current set up:

Venom Fire Ball 21 Double Turn Mod Motor
87 T Spur Gear
17 T Pinion Gear (Gear Ratio 5.12 . Final Ratio - 11.5)
Duratrax DTX - 4 ESC
7.2V Ni-MH Battery 4500mAh

I would appreciate your suggestions to get the best performance/speed out of my truck (without cooking it! ) Thanks!

You should be able to go as much as 87/23 on the gear with out much trouble-

also welcome to 10talk!

can you shoot a pic of that DTX-4 esc? I have been looking for one for a while and the pic would help me in my search!

Is this the brushed motor you would recommend? Do you think I should go 19 or 17 turns for more speed? Would a I loose to much torque?

if you are not specifically into running brushed for the sake of it, you should think into going brushless, really

If you can afford it, dump (pun intended) the nimh and go lipo.

Thanks!! ( now to find one ) I thoughtit was the 410M5 rebadged, it was my first ESC as we were outfitting my 10t as cheaply ( still had the Trinity MaxZilla pack and the Slot machine though!!)

When Novak changed out to the M series (M1C, M5, etc), Duratrax re badged the now old Novak T4 under their name as a budget esc! My guess is Novak had a bunch of T4 circuit boards that they would not be able to sell otherwise!

yeah, I could be way off base, but I sort of remember seeing a review of that esc in RCCA, with reference that is was a Novak rebadge. Maybe I'm dreaming it, or this mundane detail has been sitting in my brain for many years.

I'm sure of the rebadge, I was just mistaken over the model- my internal board said Novak-

interesting info - funny how an esc layout can be so representative of a brand, as soon as I saw this thing I was like "NOVAK GEAR"

Thank you for the suggestions. I was inclining a little bit more for brushed because I did not wanted to spend that much money on this for now. I was thinking of getting a good brushed motor with the right gears to make it as fast as possible, but still keep it simple for now. What would be your suggestions be (as far as motor) if I keep it brushed (17, 19, 21 turns)? I have a 21 turn right now, I was thinking of going lower turn for more speed, but I do not know if i will loose to much torque.

Brushless, is not out of the picture yet i guess. I am assuming Brushed will be the simpler / less expensive option but perhaps you guys know of a good brushless combination that will not cost as much (the majority I have seen are over $200) . It seems 13.5t would be the recommended power, correct?
