Avante Re-Re opinions

Post by flipwils11 »

Who on here has the 2011 Avante and do you run it at all? Given the steep price and in hindsight, would you buy it again?

Also, have you done any modifications to it? I see aluminum wheels and upgraded metal suspension links/axle carriers on fleabay and wanted to hear opinions about them. From what I have read, the buggy seems well built (this time) and able to handle substantial brushless power. With the funky quick release wheels they have, does that restrict tire choice at all?

I probably wouldn't drive one much if I had one (no racing), but it wouldn't be an exclusive shelf queen.

Alright, I have answered some of my own questions now through more research. Nice that the 2011 kit comes with a 2nd set of wheels for modern 2.2" tires. And I am not sure if I need metal hub carriers as it seems the re-re has them already (why are they selling them on fleabay with the fitment noted as for the 2012 car)?

Still seeking opinions on running a brushless motor in one.

I got one as a runner.

I couldn't justify the price but saw on advertised on a for sale thread on a r/c forum. The guy had only done about 2/3 of the build and was selling it at half price so i snapped it up . He painted it up box art but i wanted to paint it up in black so ordered a new body set .. Ok on to your questions.

YES they are worth the money . I say this as all the componets are high spec. A very complex build too. It took me over 5 hrs just to finish the front suspension, steering and servo. The alloy hubs are well made and are far stronger than the original. The whole kit screams quality . I installed a Ez Run 9t combo. Pro line rubber on the 2.2 wheels.( Not shown.) I only have driven it a little but have found it twitchy . SWB is the cause. Rear works fine. Front is not too bad. On a smooth track it will be great.

Wow...now THAT'S complex!!

I personally find the Avante way over-engineered--but that's just from looking at it. I've never owned one and don't plan on it. It's a unique-looking car, though.

It's like an R/C BMW!

Just a bit over-engineered to do a simple task,....no practical reason for existence, but great bling to show off to the neighbors....

Neat car, but wow, really?

Yeah i don't like to rush.

The shocks gave me some trouble, The front rose joints are so different to anything i built and the steering system is a real pain to get it all on. All the nuts, screws, spacers and etc were in a zip lock bag as i said mine was 2/3 built. Might have been a little faster but till you own one you will than understand. It would have been quicker if i bought the kit new as i had to go back and re build all 3 diffs as they weren't smooth and the spur gear was not spinning true.

I guess once you know what you doing its so much quicker.

I only drive mine that way to slalom around the other piles of crap hogging the left lane.

Thanks for all the Avante feedback, this helped.

WOW! That is one beautiful body. I really like the way if flows around the chassis and the large windshield. WOW! Very nice.

I also found this neat build thread: http://www.rcracer.com/off-road-electric-articles-92/2736-build-report-tamiya-avante-2011
