What wheels are these?

I picked up these aluminum wheels & tires recently, they were advertised as possibly being Sees or JPS, maybe for Kyosho cars. I searched those here on the forum and wasn't sure what they'll fit. The fronts have 4 x 8mm bearing holes while the rears are tapered. If the rears were machined to fit 12mm hexes, I'd think Kyosho--but I'm not so sure as they only have axle holes.

I did see someone here with JPS wheels on a Losi car that look almost identical...

Wheels look to be TMS. For what model I couldn't tell ya. I figure kyosho by the size bearings and taperfit rears but not sure...

But as far as I know like Asso_man stated they might be Sees rebadged.

Definetely See's. For the Ultima series based on the lack of drive pin slot in the rears. (they are probably a tapered hole to fit direct to the Kyosho tapered axles.) TMS was a company up the road from See's BITD. They bought all thier wheels direct from See's and packaged them with thier own header cards. Some of the TMS wheels had some slightly different styling cues, or were exclusive only to TMS (like the Dually RC10 wheels) but they were definetely made in Andy's shop.

I received the wheels yesterday--the rims & rubber are in surprisingly good condition and were fortunately not glued. I've got an idea I'm gonna try to polish them up and hopefully cut down on the elbow-grease. The aluminum has some scuffs & discoloration due to oxidation, but no abrasions or scratches that I could see, so they'll turn out really sweet.

The only downside is that they aren't specifically for an Optima. One pair (rears) indeed have the tapered holes that should work on an Optima, but the other pair (fronts) are intended to hold small bearings--but the one thing that throws me off is the fronts are just as wide as the rears--almost 1.5" wide. So maybe the set is for a truggy based on the Ultima chassis?

Sadly, the fronts won't do me any good, so unless I can find another pair of rears with the tapered holes (wanna trade? PM me), I'll just polish these up and sell them.

Ultima Outlaw? Wasn't that an early stadium truck based on the Ultima?

These could also have been for a 'monster' conversion like JG did for the Tamiya Grasshopper/Hornet. It always amazes me how many option parts were out there in the 1980s. Sadly I never had the money for them back then.

Yeah for all the "monster truck" 2.2" truck wheels you had to use an adapter axle to run them. Should use stock Kyosho front bearings.

Grey scotchbrite works well to clean up the wheels and leave a patina finish. If you want them polished, use Mothers aluminum metal polish.

Thanks for the tip, Brandon. Unfortunately that will only work for a 2WD's front wheels. Unless I can track down another set of rears with the tapered 4mm holes, I'll probably polish these up and sell them.

As far as the polishing goes, stay tuned...I think I came up with a way to polish them that's 10 times easier than the "elbow grease" way.

If I need to clean mine up I usually chuck them into my drill. I have "fake" axles just for that purpose.

I'm following you on the 4wd dilemma now. You need 4 rear wheels for the Kingcab if you want a clean install on the 4wd. They are hex drive.
