Need Spur Gear for Early RC10

Post by need-a-cage »

Hey Guys,

I just dug my old RC10 out of the attic and started driving it again since I got my son an RC car and wanted to show him how well my old one worked. I got a kit to rebuild the rear shocks, but other than leaky shocks it was working great. I was beating on it the other day though and I think the motor moved a little after a jump and then I ended up stripping out the spur gear. Do I have to try to find one of the original gears for this thing or can I upgrade to one of the newer setups with the finer pitch and more teeth. I have a Speedworks modified motor in it with a 10 tooth pinion, which I think is the smallest I could get at the time. The spur gear is I believe a 54 tooth or somewhere around there. I figure if I can find a spur gear that works on the old trans then I would get a pinion that keeps the ratio the same as my current setup. I think I ran a 12 or 14 on my stock motors.

Where is the best place to get parts for this thing? Are used parts on ebay the only place to go? Mine is a "Cadillac" version gold pan.

Thanks,
Craig

Hey Craig, your story is similar to mine! Yes, ebay primarily for most things but you can also find stuff on kijiji, craigslist and some parts are still available on tower hobbies, amainhobbies but the best place is old-rc.com (sabulatech).

I would suggest reading the Temple RC forum and also this one will help you if you want to upgrade to brushless / lipos etc which is the way to go if you want to modernize it:

Good luck! This place is great and full of helpful people.
