Turbo Optima Mid + Turbo Optima Mid SE build/restore
This thread is about two Optima Mid models in the SWB segment. One Turbo Optima Mid and one Turbo Optima Mid SE being built side by side (those two yellow cars in the picture above).
Parts are taken from several mid cars I have in various shape. Although, tires, chassis, bumpers, bodies, wings, decals are new or repros. The SE model will get N.I.P Skyline wheels which are more chrome-ish than the stock ones. The only option so far.
Here are the differences between all SWB models (thought it would be a good attachment).

j0pp3, amazing stuff. Again, all the parts look brand new!
As I'm the owner of about 6 Mids, all of which I'm planning to restore at some stage (one almost done, not to your standard though), I find your posts really interesting.
Keep up the good work buddy

I'm not into Kyosho's at all, but I really like your approach to the 2 builds at once with the side by side pics (great images too BTW) very nice!

Another great photo gallery - Thumbs up.
One thing strikes me funny - The SE was supposed to be the superior with it´s ball diff and all.
But they delivered it with a MSC and brace - why?

Thank you sheriff! My three mid cars so far are built from parts from seven mids in various condition. Took the best parts I could find from them. You should do the same!sheriff wrote:j0pp3, amazing stuff. Again, all the parts look brand new!

That's the biggest mystery in modern time is it not? Everyone who bought it for serious racing back in the days had to upgrade it from day oneDennisM wrote:Another great photo gallery - Thumbs up.

Amazing buddy!!
I think they are all computer images, the cars are absolutely spotless, and the photos are too good!
Do you buy all new screws j0pp3, or just choose the best from your donor cars?

Re: Turbo Optima Mid + Turbo Optima Mid SE build/restore
The photos are taken with an old Canon 40D with a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens. I have the camera set to manual and every frame is taken with the same settings. ISO 100, Exposure 1/8 sec, Aparture f/6,3, WB 4000K. Tripod and remote control are also used to get extra sharp images. Then only minor post processing/editing is needed.sheriff wrote:Amazing buddy!!

Screws are all taken from my donor cars. Though I have used some new nuts for the upper damper mounts. Could be replaced later.
Thank you! I like that thought Bo! The Big Renovation is already have one potential followerBo Wallen wrote:Top Class Sir Got four of them waiting in the big red box the last twenty years..........You might make me do something soon.....Like start The big renovation.

Superb images that really do the cars justice! I've found that increasing the aperture to around F10 gives a bit more DoF and makes more of the car in focus and therefore a little better IMO - not that yours really need it

Thanks for making me elaborate a new camera setup! I made a test increasing the aperture (misspelled in my picture below) to 16 and the shutter speed to 0.8 seconds. Big difference!jamin wrote:Superb images that really do the cars justice!
