Race Prep Radiant for Gary :)
Race Prep Radiant for Gary :)
Hey guys, I haven't had much to say over the past several weeks. Lots going on with my family and it's summer so less time to think about rc.
I got a real vintage "ride" too, a 1981 Suzuki GS1100E. Between that, the car projects and other obligations I've really only had time to duck in and look at what's going on. I did see the birthday wishes thread, thanks everyone!
Now, on to the main topic. Earlier during my vintage rc obsession my wife asked me to make a list of the cars that were my must haves. Every so often she goes to the list and trolls ebay for something she can get me. This year she suprised me with this! The oddly unpainted body is pretty rough, borken up around the rear mount and butchered at the antenna hole, but that's ok because I happen to have a couple new bodies another member gave me. (You know who you are!) The tires are flatspotted and worn, but not being a purist I have already ordered up some Kyosho tires from Marwan. Someone gouged a big divot out of the front bulkhead in front of the servo, presumably to allow the servo arm to travel a full arc. There is one mismatched lower shock cup that doesn't quite fit. The rest of the car is in very nice shape. There was some weird putty-like substance on the front arms, ostensibly to repair cracking but after I peeled it off I have not found any trace of a problem, only a couple of extra holes in each arm. There is so much good stuff with this car, including the box, the Airtronics Vector radio complete with original box and instructions, The driver, a bag of spare parts, manual, data sheets, advertising and the mint in package sticker sheet. There is even a full 1988 catalog from Sheldon's hobbies which has this bundle listed on page 85 for $239.96 (Car only for 149.96) and a AYK RACING bumper sticker to top it off. The whole out fit is dirty from driving, rather than sitting out. It looks like the whole bunch was boxed up one day in the dim past and just now drug out into the sun. Anyway, enough blather, here are some pics:

Thanks guys!
Yes, my wife does keep me in toys. To be fair though, she mostly works from my watch list. She normally can' t tell one rc car from another. This car is proving to be quite nice overall. I dare not tear it down right now or it'll become a box of parts like so many others. So, a good external cleaning is in process. I did discover that the degreaser I was using would make the gold tint on the wheels disappear in a matter of seconds. No worries though, to be honest the wheels were pretty rough anyway, and it left them coveed in shiny chrome. I'll be working on them some more in the near future. For now a couple of pics with the car cleaned up a bit. This is with one of the new bodies installed. I'll put up more as changes occur.
