Re: dirt oval discussion
also on the polished concrete oval in birdsboro, a lot of guys still ran the 40 even after the 20 was released. people use to say the 40 was heavier by a few grams so it helped with nose weight.Although after talking to Scr8p this weekend it may have come into play on the hardwood ovals they ran in PA too-

Re: dirt oval discussion
Found these nice looking shocks that are supposed to work with the TC3 which should work with the Terminator.

What length shock shafts would be appropriate front and rear?

Re: dirt oval discussion
.56 front and .71 rear shafts in TC shocks- both with RPM ball cups on the ends as mounts- the biggest problem with.the CEM shocks are spring and piston combos

Re: dirt oval discussion
I'm assuming using the TC3 springs as well? Are the Losi shocks a different diameter?

Re: dirt oval discussion
TC3 springs are in the 18#-45# range and too short when using the longer shafts- Wolfe/RC4less and Cobra/ Silva 10l center springs from the 4.1#-8# range in the front and the rear is the Wolfe/RC4less 10-14# or the coveted Shumacher 10# grey touring car barrel spring.
Losi springs are different diameter and length, the only .71 they made was the Rally Weapon and they only made one spring as I recall-
I'll try to get some reference pics up tonight, wife and I had the entire evening alone last night do my plans were altered-
This is a car I designed in 03'- you might be able to see some of the shocks as reference for now (ignore the tires)

Re: dirt oval discussion
It was a pretty neat chassis, especially since it came before all the "other" ones and I get to keep bragging rights to the CF motorplate, bellcranks and pin braceswyldbill wrote:all hail the mighty Disruptor!
The flexi car (woven 2mm) I never could get dialed in unlike the other car

Re: dirt oval discussion
All the CF is nice! It seems that all the DO cars I've been looking at have the rear shocks standing up quite a bit, and the front almost laying down.
Are the rear A arms on those standard B2/3?

Re: dirt oval discussion
my lhs had "material" delivered. i went to help lay it down. ummmm....this stuff is sand i told them.
well it's got some clay in it, they replied.
i don't know how this stuff is going to work. it's got to be 90% sand, 10% clay. i hope that with the help of a little steam roller we can get it packed and it will stay packed. otherwise it was a waste of time. maybe once the base is packed maybe i can convince them to get one more load of something better to lay on top. i have my doubts about the stuff we just put down.

Re: dirt oval discussion
Too much sand is a bad thing, however if you can get it tamped in with a vibration packer it will be rock solid anyway and will still work- plus 100% clay won't take water without being turned over anyway- the "best" outdoor setup is crush and run as a base, then sand clay (what you have there) tamped down so you can drive a full size car on it- then a 2-4" layer of clay/sand at about 65-35 mix-
But in an area filled with Dirt Oval tracks, everyone's is different and thats always a cool thing.

Re: dirt oval discussion
when they asked me whay surface would be good i told them a clay sand mix, thinking 60/40 mix. instead we got sand with a little clay. i think it will tamp down ok, but i'm also thinking rubber tires will be best here, maybe slicks or street tracs or dirt or road hawgs. i just can't wait to get it done so i can run my ce based edm/bomber on it and figure out what works best, then we can start a class. i think i'm the only guy that has d/o cars at that track right now and they are waiting on me to decide what class to run. my rc10 can go from edm to bomber in just a few minutes anyway.
Re: dirt oval discussion
so the "sand clay mix" we got is nearly 100% sand. hopefully they'll get some clay soon or this is a dead idea.
still going to race at the already established dirt oval in the area, but it would be nice to have one 5 minutes down the road.
