Scorpion & Turbo Scorpion gear pitch?
Scorpion & Turbo Scorpion gear pitch?
Hi all,
I'm thinking that with the extra grunt that I'm going to be putting through my Turbo Scorpion drivetrain, I should look at putting the old gears in a bag and finding replacements of the same pitch or maybe even replacing with a different pitch.
Does anyone know what the gear pitch is in the TS? Is it the same as the normal Scorpion/Tomahawk/Beetle/Sidewinder?
Has anyone successfully found replacements other than original parts?

Re: Scorpion & Turbo Scorpion gear pitch?
You can find replacement for all gear s except for the center-gear, at least not to my knowledge. The gear is metric 1.0
Re: Scorpion & Turbo Scorpion gear pitch?
Thanks mate - yeah, that centre gear's a bitch.
The counter gear can be changed for the CRP brass item. Various 1.0 pinions are available on eBay.
Centre gear? The guy from Time Tunnel 'melted' his original gear so he had some ground from polyoxymethylene/POM/delrin/acetal (whatever you want to call it). I was thinking that bonding two delrin 1.0 module gears together would work (or you could use a 1 module 12T gear and bond a larger 32 pitch, or 48 pitch gear to it)
After a fair amount of internet searches I found these:
http://www.smallparts.com.au/store/item/gs100120900b0600achp/gearsspurmodule1/
http://www.smallparts.com.au/store/item/gs100240900b0600achp/gearsspurmodule1/

There are other pitch gears on that site too.
Apparently delrin's quite hard to bond, but this CA glue claims to bond it well:

I think that reinforcing it by micro-drilling through both gears and inserting wire 'pins' should work quite well.
For now I'll use my 20T/12T centre gear (and the 22T/12T one that's on it's way from the UK) but I'll try the above method if it looks like I'm starting to trash them!

Re: Scorpion & Turbo Scorpion gear pitch?
Yes; I used modern aftermarket damper from Yeah Racing. They have an 11.8mm damper in various lengths, so I chose 60mm for the front and 70mm to the rear. http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=21558turbo scorpion wrote:do any of you know where i can find shocks for the TS? repro or substitution ones are fine.

Hey Mjtown, sorry to hijack your thread but you mentioned an Optima Pro, do you have any other info on it or a thread about it?
