To Build or not to build????
I finally got my last Ultima that being a rare NIB Ultima Pro XL.
I now have the whole Ultima line up & most are runners but I never thought my quest for a Ultima Pro Xl would be a NIB. Don't ask why I got a NIB it just turned out that way.
While I'm not a NIB collector by any means. I have mostly runners or new built. So I think I would appreciate it more as a assembled kit not in the box . Soooo what would you do???
Oh forgot to say that in the box is the original reciept from when it was purchased in the States. Guess how much ??
Some pic's

$189.99
I have a hard time with this same issue. Sure it is just a bunch of parts on a box and hard to display but its value as a kit plus the fact that kits in general are becoming a lost art makes me cherish my kits more than my new built.

Re: To Build or not to build????
I made the personal vow to never ever build a vintage nib car until I was done restoring the runners / already built cars I already have to runner or shelf queen spec as well as maintain the current racecars to top race conditions... which means I have not managed to build a nib for 14 yrs now
If you have the time - build it. As said i have a stupid stash of nib vintage cars that, frankly, I don't look at very often even though there's some crazy stuff in there... The only reason I can think of to keep a car nib is for potential future reselling at a premium. But given your love for ultimas I doubt you'll ever do this Plus, these days and for the next years I think, nib wont appreciate this much!
Build it and be done with it

Re: To Build or not to build????
The reason for keeping mine nib as I mentioned above is partially due to collectability which really when you get down to it is about money and value, but also its about the fact that the kit is unmolested and at any point when you are missing your childhood you can then break those bags open and your a kid again. That's why I say mine will be built one day, probably not soon though

I say build it - but not yet. Wait until all your other projects are done, even the back-burner ones, and then, when there are no distractions and you can really take your time and savor it, dig in.

Re: To Build or not to build????
I bought mine about 8-9 years ago from a guy in Australia for $150. I built it and I would do it again.

The more I think about the idea of saving new-in-boxes without building them, the more I don't get it.

......knowing that when your ready for a hot porn star she is already there and waiting! Consider keeping it in the box as foreplay lmao!

I'd rather stick it in a box than stare at a box.gomachv wrote:......knowing that when your ready for a hot porn star she is already there and waiting! Consider keeping it in the box as foreplay lmao!

Re: To Build or not to build????
Thanks Guys.
Most of you think like me. I'm not into this vintage stuff to make money. So It will get built on my X Mass holidays
One thing I found odd is the shocks are pre built ( All O rings & c Clips are fitted ) and the ball diff is built for you. Will be a easy build up.
gomachv you are so close. The box price is $260 then another marked down to $230 & the reciept for $169 . Well done though.

Re: To Build or not to build????
Hi Mad Racer!
I bought a NIB Kyosho Triumph last November (2011) and it has not yet been built. The Triumph is from the same family. It has also pre-built gold shocks. Let's build them both during the x-mass holidays
Cheers
