Mongrel 10T runner build

Post by markbt73 »

This is the other half of the mixed-up-tubs project I started the other night. Figured I'd start a thread for it in the proper place. There are parts from at least 4, probably 5, different RC10s in here: a C-stamp gold tub, black 10T nose and suspension mounts/shock tower, black rear bulkhead and shock tower that may or may not be from the same truck, a white-case Stealth of unknown origin (was in a Ziploc bag in pieces), suspension arms and hub carriers from a "Team Built" RC10GT that I wrecked ages ago (chassis was a pretzel, but the suspension was all right), and shocks, turnbuckles, and other hardware from a broken-chassis RTR T3 that I picked up for a song.

And somehow or another, it all goes together.

Need to get bottom bearings for the transmission, and then I can get it rolling. Plans are for a mild mod brushed motor, HPI Super Star wheels with Geolander tires (not-quite-monster-truck stance), and as for a body... something. I don't know yet.

Finally got around to putting this beast together. Special thanks to gomachv for providing the missing bearings in the transmission... I owe you one.

Decided to go with a simple silver-can 540 iin this one. It's just for bashing around the yard, so I wanted nice long run times. I had a couple other truck bodies, but I wanted a clean slate, so I stuck this new T4 Interceptor shell on it. Fits better than I expected. Needs a spoiler, though.

Guess I'd better break out that new airbrush this weekend. I have a couple projects at the "waiting for paint" stage now.

Took her for a spin this morning. I'm rarely a "more power" kind of guy, but I think this ome might need a horsepower boost. It just goes exactly where you point it with no drama at all. Maybe I'll swap in that low-end brushless that seems like too much in a CE buggy and see how it goes in here.

Painted. Not my best work, but it'll do fine for a basher:

I got these Losi Slider wheels and tires for another project, but they didn't work out, so I tried them on here.

Not bad... but now the Interceptor body, which I wasn't crazy about to begin with, looks really silly. What to do, what to do...

I like it. I was my self thinking of building a gold 10T, but didn't want to spend the money to plate the nose to match, maybe one day.
