So... anyone know anything about the origins of brushless?

Unfortunaely, I've given up on brushed... again ([url=http://www.-mod-motors-novak-escs.html]removed[/url])

I'm now looking for something brushless... but not just ANYTHING brushless, something OLD.
I don't know much at all about the beginnings of the brushless era, and I haven't been able to find anything elsewhere, so I figured I'd come here.

I'm looking for a "vintage" brushless system for my 10T.
I have PLENTY of modern systems, but I want something older to match the feel of the vehicle.
Anyone know any places to get something like this? anyone HAVE anything like this?
I feel like it might be expensive, but I'm hoping to not spend an arm and a leg.
I saw a 10b on ebay yesterday with an awesome looking vintage BL setup, but I just didn't have the money to pull the trigger, because I totally would have if I did.

Just brainstorming here but I recall Aristocraft or something like that had an Astro .05 brushless way back.

I don't know much about the early days.. the first widely marketed system that I recall besides people running Hacker and some other brands was Novak and the SS/GTB line. That was kind of when I was not so much into r/c though.. so I'm not sure how much that helps.

I do recall Trinity at some point badmouthed brushless technology and even put out a full page ad in car action against it or something?

I know early systems were for aircraft, and possibly from astroflight.

The brushless motor was invented over 50 years ago, and started gaining popularity with applications like robotics, and computer hard drives. In the 80's, advances in magnets allowed the technology to yield more power, and as the cost came down applications like ours came to life. I love it when a plan comes together:)

Yeah, I found 2 aveox motors on ebay, but they were both 40mm diameter, and both over $100
there was also the endbell of what was most definitely a sensored motor with huge sensor wires, but the rest of the motor is somewhere out there in the world, sad, and alone.

I think I'll just have to wait until I get access to the BST here, and see if I can find anyone who has anything.

I've also been thinking about running a plane outrunner in it, not even an old one, just anything really.
I've seen that in some old threads where people used to do that back when inrunners in convenient sizes weren't as common or something.
Mamba Max and an outrunner is my backup plan... I already have the Mamba Max, so that makes it cheaper.

Just looking at it makes me happy.
I've wanted an RC10 for a long long time, but could just never justify it.
Ideally, I'd wanted a buggy, but I already have a 2wd buggy, so I figured a stadium truck would be good, since I didn't already have one.

That's the first name that came to mind also. I remember seeing those motors in the insane speed run cars with 12+ cells in old magazines. I think the cans were blue or silver?

aveox had the first brushless motors (systems, really) designed to fit in a 1/10 r/c car. if i remember correctly.

I found a Hacker E-40 17.5T sensored motor, which I have contacted the seller about... EDIT: just bought
I used to own one a few years ago, but sold it. It was actually a really good motor.
I'm just going to go with that, and see if I can find a Novak Super Sport ESC or something, that'll be simple. Not exactly what I had in mind, but I'd be satisfied nonetheless.

The first brushless motors that I recall reading about were by Aveox.

My first brushless motors were made by Hacker and used in rc boats. I bought them used in the 2003 time period from a Hacker sponsored boat racer. The interesting thing about the motors is they all came with serial numbers and you had to grind your own flat on the motor shaft. The early motors worked great but the early esc's not so good. Many early esc's went up in smoke.

I got the hacker motor today, and that seems perfect.
I also scored a gtb2 for $50 to replace the original gtb in my sc10, so ill just use the gtb in the 10t.
It really was quite impossible to find much else in my price range.
